    Miss Rita C. Freck, daughter of
    Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Freck of
    823 Nash road became the bride
    of Robert Ziehm, son of Mr. and
    Mrs. Rudolph Ziehm of 21 Allen
    street in a ceremony performed
    Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock
    in the home of the bride's par-
    ents, the Rev. Carl A. Franken-
    stein officiating.
    The bride, who was given in
    marriage by her father, wore a
    gown of pink faille taffeta, hav-
    ing a shirred bodice, sweetheart
    neckline, and blue velvet bow
    trimmings. She wook her vows be-
    fore an altar decorated with palms,
    baskets of flowers and tall white
    tapers. Her bouquet was of pink
    and white pom pons tied with
    blue ribbon.
    Miss Mary Dent was the bride's
    only attendant, and wore a gown
    of turquoise blue made similar in
    style ot the bride's and trimmed
    with maroon velvet bows. Her
    bouquet was of rust and yellow
    pompons tied with rust ribbon.
    Raymond Perschke, cousin of the
    groom, acted as best man.
    A dinner for twenty guests fol-
    lowed the ceremony, covers being
    laid for eight at the bride's table
    which was centered with a large
    wedding cake adorned with a
    miniature bride and groom and
    having tall candles on either side,
    the house was decorated with pink
    and white streamers and baskets
    of flowers. In the evening a re-
    ception was held for fifty guests.
    The bride's mother, Mrs. Freck,
    wore plum colored velvet, Mrs.
    Ziehm, mother of the groom,
    chose black crepe and the groom's
    grandmother, Mrs. Swanson, was
    attired in taupe crepe. Each
    wore a corsage of pompons tied
    with gold ribbon.
    Mr. and Mrs. Ziehm will be at
    home in 164 Fletch street after
    October 20.

    Rudy Ziehm To Retire As Deputy

    Rudolph Ziehm, 68, of 25 Allen St., North Tonawanda, chief criminal deputy of the Niagara County Sheriff's Department, will retire Jan. 15 after 20 years service.

    Deputy Ziehm has been chief criminal deputy since 1952. He was appointed to the Sheriff's Department in 1948 by Sheriff Henry Becker.

    Deputy Ziehm served on the Niagara County Republican executive board for 18 years and was a GOP committeeman for 35 years.

    He and his wife, the former Anne Swanson, have three children, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

    Mrs. Rudolph Ziehm was Anne Swanson. She was born Jan 18, 1900 in Jeannette, Pa., and died in September of 1992 in Seguin TX. She had moved to Texas in 1988 to live with her daughter. She was a CPA, and was still keeping books right up until she moved away. When she sold the house at 25 Allen Street, in 1988, there was a space heater in the basement which had a gas fitting that needed to be capped. When the repairman arrived, he said, "If you can prove that you're 65, I'll give you a discount." Mrs. Ziehm laughed and said, "I was born in 1900! My age is always whatever year it is!" He told her, "If you can prove that you're really 88, I'll do it for free." She pulled out her driver's license and he did it for free.

    August Ziehm, 81, of 1207 Oliver St., father of Deputy Sheriff Rudolph Ziehm, died this morning at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Ziehm, Mr. Ziehm had retired a number of years ago after working most of his life for lumber companies in the Twin Cities. His wife, Augusta, died several years ago.

    Besides Deputy Sheriff Ziehm, he is survived by another son, Arthur, of North Tonawanda; a daughter. Mrs. James Henwood of Niagara Falls; a half-brother, Gustav Werth of the Town of Wheatfield: 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., the Rev. Charles F. Kriete officiating. Burial will be in Friedens Cemetery.

    August F. Poerschke, 68 years old, died at his home on the Ruie road last
    night after a lingering illness. The deceased was born in Germany and has
    lived in the Tonawandas during the last fifteen years. Besides his widow,
    three daughters and four sons survive. The funeral will be held from the
    late home tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. August Herring
    officiating. Burial will be at Sawyers Creek.

She had been a resident of of North Tonawanda for the past 30 years. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Kriedemann Mrs. August Ziehm and Mrs. Adolf Liebeck, four sons, Otto Braun, and Rudolph, William and August Poerschke, all of North Tonawanda, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Eichler, Ebling, Germany. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Kriedemann home. Rev. Carl Frankenstein of the St. Matthews' church officiating. Burial will be in the St. Matthew Cemetery.
