Helen M. Zito, 91, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late Luca and Maria (D’Agostino) Gravanti.
Helen attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On August 14, 1948, she married her beloved husband, Ronald L. Zito at St. Joseph’s Church. Mr. Zito predeceased her October 11, 2007 after 59 cherished years together. Helen was employed for many years as a Teacher’s aide for the Niagara-Wheatfield School District until her retirement. She was also a longtime member of the ISDA Cataract Lodge #240 in Niagara Falls.
Mrs. Zito was an avid seamstress and enjoyed needlepointing. She was also a meticulous housekeeper and an excellent cook and baker. Above all, Helen was devoted to her family who she especially enjoyed spending time with.
Mrs. Zito is survived by her five children, Barbara (Joseph) Lauzonis, Anthony (Rosa) Zito, Ron (Margee) Zito, John Zito and Bob Zito; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, John Gravanti, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Terry Palmisano, Tony Gravanti, Marge Rotella and Bobby Gravanti.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 15th from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls. Helen’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. in St. Peter’s Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY. Please assemble at church. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice House, Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of one’s choice. Given in marriage by her father
the bride wore a gown of satin embroidered
chiffon featuring an all over
illusion neckline upon which
were appliques of pearls. The full
skirt fell In a court train. Her
chapel-length Illusion veil fell from
an empress crown of pearls and
orange blossoms. She carried white .
orchids on a prayer book.
Mrs. Grace Cimino. matron of
honor, Misses Kathleen Zito. Collie
Ruvo. Grace Ricotta, bridesmaids;
and Donna Mae Rotella and Mane
Gravanti. nieces of the bride, flower
girls, formed the bridal group.
Mr. Robert Joseph was the best
man. Lewis Rotella, nephew of the
bride, was ring bearer.
After the ceremony, breakfast wai
served at the home of the bride, with
dinner at the Prospect house. More
than 400 guests attended the reception
at the Prospect house.
For traveling, the bride chose a
plum colored gabardine suit with
forest green accessories and a white
orchid corsage.
Upon their return from a motor
trip to the Catskill mountains. Mr.
and Mrs. Zito will be at home to
their friends at 4821* Eighteenth
street
