    Miss Dorothy Calkins, daughter of
    Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Calkins of La-
    Grange was united in marriage to
    Ralph Steblein, son of Mr. and Mrs.
    John J. Steblein of Lockport, at the
    Baptist parsonage, LaGrange, Saturday
    evening, July 30. Rev. A. W.
    Holder officiated. The couple was
    attended by Miss Grace Woodward
    of Silver Lake Assembly and John
    Sheehan of Lockport. The bride was
    gowned in light blue canton crepe
    and wore a hat to match. The
    bridesmaid -wore light green silk
    voile.
    Mr. and Mrs. Steblein will make
    their home at 61 Caledonia street,
    Lockport, where he has a position
    with the Fro-Joy ice cream company.
    A pre-nuptial variety shower was
    given by Mrs. Howard Furlow and
    Mrs. Harry Calkins at the home of
    Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Calkins Friday
    evening. July 29 for Miss Calkins.
    Light refreshments were served. The
    bride-elect received many beautiful
    and useful gifts, including a 42-piece
    glass set in princess green.

    Funeral services for John M.
    Steblein, 71, of Lockport, who died
    Tuesday In Mercy Hospital, Buffalo
    of a fructured hip suffered
    in a fall about two week's ago,
    waa held Friday morning in St.
    Mary's Church, Ldckport. Burial
    was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
    Mr. Steblein is survived by
    four daughters, Mrs. James Fox
    of Medina and Loretta Steblein,
    Mrs. John Barnwell and Mrs.
    Charles Forness of Lockport; three

    The funeral of O. Eugene Calkins,
    82, of LaGrange was held Monday
    afternoon at two o'clock at the LaGrange
    Baptist church, Rev. John
    Seely officiating. Burial was made
    in LaGrange cemetery of which Mr.
    Calkins had been sexton for the past
    twenty years. In poor health for several
    weeks he was taken to the Community
    hospital two weeks ago where
    his condition was considered grave
    from the outset. He passed away
    New Year's eve.
    Oscar Eugene Calkins was born in
    LaGrange August 30, 1855, and had
    always resided in that section. In
    1899 he was united in marriage to
    Miss Lillian Brotherton who survives,
    as well as nine children, Oscar,
    Mrs. May McLaughlin, Harry, Ernest,
    Quentin and Kenneth of Perry; Mrs.
    Howard Furlow and Mrs. Robert
    Wesley of Sinclairville and Mrs.
    Ralph Stebline of Lockport. A sister,
    Mrs. George Cox of Sucker Brook
    and a brother, Henry Calkins of
    Batavia also survive. Twenty-one
    grandchildren also survive.
    Mr. Calkins was a lifelong member
    of the LaGrange Baptist church.
    For many years he was an expert
    in tree grafting when orchards were
    more numerous than now. In the
    earlier days when pretty nearly every
    farmer had a flock of sheep he found
    seasonal employment as a shearer.
    Always a resident of LaGrange he
    lived to see a large family reared
    and also to enjoy the good will and
    esteem of scores of people

    Death of Mrs. Lillian Calkins
    Edington, 75, occurred on Satur-
    day, July 16, in a Jamestown hos-
    pital where she had been a pa-
    tient since May 27. She had been
    making her home with a daugh-
    ter, Mrs. Howard Furlow of Sin-
    clairville.
    Mrs. Calkins was born on Sept.
    22, 1874, a daughter of Mr. and
    Mrs. Emory Brotherton of Bliss.
    She was united in marriage to
    Eugene Calkins and lived for
    many years on a farm north of
    Perry. After his death she was
    united in marriage to Fred Dav-
    idson of Perry, who died suddenly
    about two years ago, and early
    this year she was married to
    George Edington of Sinclairville.
    Mrs. Edington retained active in-
    terest in life up to the time of her
    final illness, enjoying travel and
    spending several winters in Cali-
    fornia.
    Survivors beside her husband in-
    clude five sons and four daughters
    by her first marriage: Oscar Cal-
    kins of Perry, Harry and Quentin
    Calkins and Mrs. Howard Furlow
    (Angie) of Sinclairville; Mrs. Jo-
    seph Pelow (May) of Sheffield,
    Pa; Ernest of Belmont, Kenneth
    of LaGrange, Mrs. Ralph Steblein
    (Dorothy) of Lockport, Mrs. Rob-
    ert Westley (Hazel) of Niagara
    Falls. There are 37 grandchildren
    and 7 great-grandchildren.
    Services were held in Sinclair-
    ville on Monday, with burial in
    Glenwood Cemetery, Perry.

    Emory Brotherton, who has made
    his home with his daughter, Mrs.
    Lillian Calkins, for the greater part
    of the time the last four years, died
    in the Warsaw hospital Monday. Funeral
    services were held Wednesday
    afternoon.

    Emory Brotherton, 84, whose
    death occurred at the Warsaw hospital
    on September 29, was one of
    nine children born to Mr. and Mrs.
    Joseph Brotherton of Wetherefleld.
    Only one, George Brotherton or Batavia,
    survives. He also leaves one
    daughter, Mrs. Lillian Calkins of
    LaGrange, and two step-daughters,
    Mrs. David Upright of Lamont and
    Mrs. Henry Armour of Warsaw.
    There are nine grandchildren and 25
    great-grandchildren.
    He was married on November 20,
    1874, to Miss Lucy Hale of Little Valley,
    whose death occurred in 1905. In
    1906 he married Mrs. Mary Furnel of
    Bliss, whose death occurred about 15
    years ago. He had made his home
    with his daughter, Mrs. Calkins, for
    the past four years.
    Funeral services were held at the
    Simons Mortuary, Warsaw, Rev. Herbert
    Cory of the Methodist Church
    officiating. Interment was at Smith's
    Corner

    Mrs. Lucy Brotherton was born in
    Little Valley, Cattaragus County,
    November 22, 1849, and died at her
    home in South Wales, N. Y., May 4.
    1905, being 56 years, 5 months and 12
    days old.
    She leaves to mourn her loss a husband,
    two daughters, Mrs Lillian
    Calkins of La Grange, and Mrs. Lulu
    Lewis of Akron. She also leaves one
    brother, J. Hall, of Salamanaca, N.
    Y., and four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth
    Squires of Salamanca, Mrs. Emily
    Braley of South Wales, Mrs. Janette
    Plugh and Mrs. Prisoilla Drew of
    Bliss.
    The remains were brought to Bliss
    where she formerly resided, and the
    funeral was held at the Baptist Church
    Sunday, May 7th, at 11 a. m.. Rev.
    A. J. Wayman officiating, with interment
    in the Smith Corners cemetery.
    The deceased was a kind and loving
    wife and mother, always cheerful and
    companionable and will be greatly
    missed and mourned by those who
    knew her best.
