    Dorothy A. Gardei (Schmeickel) age 89, of North Tonawanda, passed away October 6, 2022. The happiest time in Dorothy’s life was when she was raising her children. Later in life she became a nurse and worked for Heathwood Assisted Living. She was the wife of the late George Gardei. Beloved mother of Sandra Brazier, Randy (Bonnie) Gardei, Candi (Rev. Terry) Bull, Tami DePriest, Jacqueline (William) Owens, and the late George Gardei Jr. Grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Sister of Betty, Shirley, and Donald, stepsister of James, aunt of several nieces and nephews. No prior visitation, funeral services will be held privately.     He was born in Sanborn and lived the greater part of his life in this area.

    He was employed for 30 years as a tester for Spaulding Fibre Corp.

    Mr, Schmeichel was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Layman's League of the church.

    He was a member of the International Association of Machinists, Lodge 2106.

    Survivors Include his widow, Mrs. Minnie McGill Schmeichel; a son, S/Sgt. Daniel Schmeichel, stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.,; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Jane Kowalski, Buffalo, Mrs. Robert Kobernus and Mrs. George Gardei, both of the Tonawandas; a brother, Arthur Schmeichel, Sanborn; sister, Mrs. Donald (Leona) Black, this city, and ten grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wattengel Funeral Home by Rev. Robert H. Rose, minister of Redemer Lutheran Church. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial

    JAMES AUGUST GARDEI IS DEAD AT HIS HOME
    James August Gardei, age 35 years, died at his home, 69 FIrst avenue, yesterday morning about 11 o'clock as the result of an operation. Mr. Gardei was a prominent Democrat in the city, having been at one time a member of the Democratic county and city committees. Four years ago Mr. Gardei was secretary of the Board of Civil Service Commissioners. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and of the Red Men. He was an exempt fireman and a member of the Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent Society. He was a charter member of the Sweeney Hose Company.
    Mr. Gardei is survied by a wife and three children, a mother, five brothers, Isaac, John, Herman, William of North Tonawanda and Louis of Washington, Pa., also five (sic) sisters, Mrs. Charles Boyer and Mrs. Alfred Martz of this city and Mrs. William Macdonald of Buffalo.
    The funeral will be held from the late residence on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Red Men will have charge of the ceremony, and Rev. Duncan Cameron will officiate. Interment will take place at Elmlawn cemetery.

    FOLLENDORF - Anna Gardei Follendorf, 82, this morning (March 10, 1956) at the Bethesda Home, Tonawanda. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, she had lived in North Tonawanda most of her life. She was a member of Friedens Church. Survivors include her two sons, Clarence A. Gardei of Lewisburg, Pa., and George D. Gardei of North Tonawanda; a daughter, Mrs. Howard C. Flanders of Lockport; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, August Goerss of North Tonawanda; three step-sons, William, Fred, and Herman Follendorf, all of North Tonawanda, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Ida Runge of North Tonawanda.     POKELWALDT - Adelaide Schmeichel Pokelwaldt, 77, of 181 18th Ave., North
    Tonawanda, died Saturday (Apr. 13, 1957) in Meyer Memorial Hospital,
    Buffalo, after a long illness. Born in Germany, she resided in North
    Tonawanda for 71 years and was the wife of the late Herman Pokelwaldt. She
    is survived by two sons, Arthur of Eggertsville and Wilbert of North
    Tonawanda; a daughter, Mrs. Donald Black of North Tonawanda; three bothers,
    Adolph Weinke of Sanborn and John and Reinhardt Weinke of Bergholtz, and
    four sisters, Mrs. Edward Jagow of Niagara Falls, Mrs. Esther Moll and Mrs.
    Emma Haseley of Bergholtz and Mrs. Ella Eggert of Gasport. Seven

    Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schmeichel,
    334 Oliver St., both residents of
    North Tonawanda for more than
    70 years, today are observing their
    56th wedding anniversary.
    Both were born in Germany and
    came to this city when they were
    small children. Mr. Schmeichel
    is 76 years old, his wife, 73.
    The couple was married March
    10,1898 in Bergholtz. They are the
    parents of four children: Wilbert
    Schmeichel and Mrs. Leona Black
    of North Tonawanda, Arthur
    Schmeichel of Eggertsville and the
    late Edward Schmeichel, a former
    alderman of the seventh ward.
    They have 12 grandchildren and 3
    great-grandchildren.
    A former cabinet maker at the
    Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, Mr
    Schmeichel later was custodian at
    the Tonawandas YMCA and worked
    for a time in the Evening
    NEWS building.
    For several years, until his retirement
    about 10 years ago, Mr.
    Schmeichel . operated a tavern
    Mrs. Schmeichel, who occupies
    much of her leisure time with hand
    work, at one time prepared luncheons
    for the Kiwanis and Rotary
    Clubs of the Tonawandas.
    Mr. Schmeichel is confined in
    his home with penumonia and a
    celebration of the anniversary has
    been postponed by the couple's
    family until his recovery and
    "warmer weather" will allow a
    family get-together.
