    Janet M. “Tootie” Fleming (Schmeichel) age 83, of North Tonawanda, June 2, 2018 after a brief illness. She was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was the wife of the late Thomas Fleming. Beloved mother of Jackie (Robert) Malinowski and Terri Fiore. Grandmother of Shannon, Thomas and Edward Malinowski, and Gianna and Daniella Fiore. Sister of Robert (Mabel) Schmeichel and the late Velma Hy. Aunt of several nieces and nephews. She is survived by many loving friends.
    Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc. 1241 Oliver St., at Ward Rd., in North Tonawanda on Tuesday from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice or St. Paul Lutheran Church.     (Sept. 23, 1954) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was
    born in Germany and had lived here 73 years. He is survived by his wife,
    Adelaide Wienke Schmeichel; two sons, Arthur of Eggertsville and Wilbert
    Schmeichel of North Tonawanda; a daughter, Mrs. Donald Black of North

    was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church and the Live Hose Company.

    St., the Rev. Arthur Hornish officiating. Burial in St. Martin's Cemetery.

    POKELWALDT - Adelaide Schmeichel Pokelwaldt, 77, of 181 18th Ave., North
    Tonawanda, died Saturday (Apr. 13, 1957) in Meyer Memorial Hospital,
    Buffalo, after a long illness. Born in Germany, she resided in North
    Tonawanda for 71 years and was the wife of the late Herman Pokelwaldt. She
    is survived by two sons, Arthur of Eggertsville and Wilbert of North
    Tonawanda; a daughter, Mrs. Donald Black of North Tonawanda; three bothers,
    Adolph Weinke of Sanborn and John and Reinhardt Weinke of Bergholtz, and
    four sisters, Mrs. Edward Jagow of Niagara Falls, Mrs. Esther Moll and Mrs.
    Emma Haseley of Bergholtz and Mrs. Ella Eggert of Gasport. Seven
    grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Pokelwaldt was

    Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schmeichel,
    334 Oliver St., both residents of
    North Tonawanda for more than
    70 years, today are observing their
    56th wedding anniversary.
    Both were born in Germany and
    came to this city when they were
    small children. Mr. Schmeichel
    is 76 years old, his wife, 73.
    The couple was married March
    10,1898 in Bergholtz. They are the
    parents of four children: Wilbert
    Schmeichel and Mrs. Leona Black
    of North Tonawanda, Arthur
    Schmeichel of Eggertsville and the
    late Edward Schmeichel, a former
    alderman of the seventh ward.
    They have 12 grandchildren and 3
    great-grandchildren.
    A former cabinet maker at the
    Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, Mr
    Schmeichel later was custodian at
    the Tonawandas YMCA and worked
    for a time in the Evening
    NEWS building.
    For several years, until his retirement
    about 10 years ago, Mr.
    Schmeichel . operated a tavern
    Mrs. Schmeichel, who occupies
    much of her leisure time with hand
    work, at one time prepared luncheons
    for the Kiwanis and Rotary
    Clubs of the Tonawandas.
    Mr. Schmeichel is confined in
    his home with penumonia and a
    celebration of the anniversary has
    been postponed by the couple's
    family until his recovery and
    "warmer weather" will allow a
    family get-together.

    Mrs. Bertha A. Schmeichel
    Mrs. Bertha A. Schmeichel, 57 yeras old, wife of William Schmeichel of the Nash road, died yesterday afternoon at her home after a lingering illness. She was born in Germany and had lived here 32 years. Besides her husband, five daughters, Mrs. E. Batt, Mrs. W. Callopy, Mrs. Melville Helbron, the Misses Agnes and Elizabeth Schmeichel of North Tonawanda and five sons, Albert, William, Edward, Benjamin and Carl Schmeichel of North Tonawnada survive. The funeral will be held from the family home at 1:30 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon and a half hour later from the St. Matthew's church on Wheatfield street, Rev. Carl Frankenstein officiating. Burial will be made in St. Matthew's cemetery at Sawyers Creek.

    BERGHOLTZ, April 17,-Mrs. Matilda Wienke, nee Retzlaff, 74 years old, wife of Albert Wienke, died today at her home, in Cayuga road after a brief illness. She was stricken with paralysis Sunday. She was born in Campow (sic), Germany, and had resided in this village for the past 51 years. She was a member of St. James Lutheran church and the Ladies' Aid society.
    Besides her husband, she is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Edward Jagow and Mrs. William Eggert, both of Niagara Falls, Mrs. Albert Schmeichel, of North Tonawanda, Mrs. Christ (sic) Haseley, of Sanborn, and Mrs. Gustav Moll, of Bergholtz; five sons, Adolph, of Sanborn, John, Hugo and Reinhard, all of Bergholtz. and Albert, of North Tonawanda; 34 grandchildren; seven great granchildren (sic); two brothers, Fred, of Grand Haven, Mich., and Edward, of Sanborn. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p. m. from the home and at 2:30 from St. James church. The Rev. Otto Bruss will officiate. Interment will be in St. James cemetery.

    Martinsville Resident Dies Suddenly
    Mrs. Minnie Caroline Frieling, 63 years old, died suddenly at her home on the Lockport road in Martinsville Wednesday morning. She was stricken with apoplexy while in her home and, before Dr. Jacob E. Helwig, who had been hurriedly called, arrived, she expired. Mrs. Frieling had been in poor health for some time. She is survived by four sons and two daughters, all of the Tonawandas. They are Mrs. Mary Kopp, Amelia, William, Ernest, Fred and Herman Frieling. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the house and a half hour later from St. Paul's church, the Rev. Phillip Laux officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's cemetery.
