    BACON - John W., Sr. “Jack” Age 83 of the City of Tonawanda, February 8, 2021. He is survived by his long time loving sweatheart Susanne (nee Miller) Tranter, father of John W. (Laurie) Bacon, Jr., Jill (Bruce) Spira and Joseph N. (Robin) Bacon, grandfather of Jaelle, Nicholas G. and Pearl Bacon and great-grandfather of Raelyn Bacon, son of the late George A. Sr. and Beatrice (nee Vigrass) Bacon, brother of Veronica (late Wendell) Wilbar and the late Margaret (late Daniel) Asbury, Bernice (late Duane) Townsend and George (late Lois) Bacon, Jr. Also many nieces and nephews. Jack was a 1955 graduate of Tonawanda High School and was a US Marine Corps Veteran serving on the USS Saratoga and on the USS Intrepid. Jack was a talented cabinet maker who built organs and boats in his career and his carpentry was evident in reconstructing his home. His career also included working as Maintenance Superintendent at the Tonawanda Housing Authority retiring in 2000. Jack was also a prominent musician who began playing drums at a young age. He was part of the WNY music scene and a bandleader, founding the Morgan Street Stompers Dixieland Band. He and his band played music at all sorts of venues for friends and followers. Jack was a member of Tonawandas’ Post 264 American Legion National Championship Band since the 1960’s and was a Charter member of the Clown Band. He was also a member of the Grandfather’s Band, Cheektowaga Senior Citizens Band, Queen City Jazz Society and the American Federation of Musicians Local 209. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 12th at 10 AM in St. Francis of Assisi RC Church, 150 Broad Street in Tonawanda. Burial will be in Whitehaven Cemetery, Grand Island immediate following the Funeral Mass. Please be mindful that face coverings and social distancing will be required.     Voisinet, Ernest Vigrass
    and Arthur Vigrass. Mrs.
    Bacon was a member of St.
    Francis of Assisi Church,
    the Altar Society, Women's

    Hospital and the
    Historical Society of the
    Tonawandas.
    She is survived by her
    husband, George A. Bacon;

    be honored on their 60th
    wedding anniversary on
    Thursday with a home
    liturgy celebrated by the
    Rev. Msgr. Ralph M. Miller,
    pastor of St. Francis of
    Assisi parish in Tonawanda,
    followed by an open
    house Sunday afternoon.
    Mr. Bacon and the
    former Beatrice Vigrass
    were married on Feb. 18,
    1922, in the old St. Francis
    church on Adam Street,
    now the school gymnasium.
    The couple recalled
    that it was very cold and
    icy and it snowed the
    afternoon of the wedding.
    A neighbor, Gus Beutner,
    drove them in a large
    touring car that had curtains
    on the windows to the
    7 a.m. wedding mass. The
    Rev. Aloysius Bachman,
    then pastor, officiated at
    the ceremony. Attendants
    w e r e William and
    Josephine Bacon, brother
    and lister of the bridgroom.
    After the ceremony,
    Mr. Bacon's mother
    served breakfast for the
    wedding party in the Bacon
    family home at 294 Broad
    St., Tonawanda.
    We walked downtown in
    the afternoon and there
    were a lot more stores 60
    years ago than there are
    now." Mr. Bacon recalled.
    In the evening, a home
    reception was given for the
    newlyweds for their family
    and friends.

    Mr. Bacon is a retired
    marine engineer and has
    made several scale working
    models of marine
    engines. He has also completed
    several grandfather
    clocks making one for each
    of the couple's five
    children. Many pieces of
    wood furniture in their
    home were handcrafted by
    him.
    Mr. Bacon's hobbies also
    include photography. He
    took all of the pictures in
    present-day times for the
    "Then and Now" slide
    show that is shown by the
    Historical Society of the
    Tonawandas. Mr. and Mrs.
    Bacon are members of the
    society.
    A professional drummer
    for more than 30 years, he
    is one of the first gold card
    life membership holders in
    the American Federation
    of Musicians Local 209. The
    Bacons are also members
    of the Holy Name Society
    and Altar Society at St.
    Francis Church.
    The couple are parents of
    Mrs. Daniel (Margaret M.)
    Asbury of Fort Lauderdale,
    F l a . ; Mrs. Wendall
    (Bonnie) Wilbar of Man-
    chester, N.H.; Mrs. Duane
    (Bernice) Townsend;
    George (Lois) Bacon, Jr.,
    and Jack (Pat) Bacon, all
    of Tonawanda. They have
    14 grandchildren and two
    great-grandchildren.

    Park Ave., died Sunday (April 14, 1968) in his home
    after a long illness.
    Bom in Staffordshire, England,
    he resided here most of
    his life.
    He served as justice of, the
    peace here for 20 years,, retiring
    about 25 years ago. He was
    a member of St. Mark's Episcopal
    Church and a life member
    of the Knights of Pythias.
    He was the husband of the
    former Emma Romanowski,
    who died in 1958.
    Survivors include four sons,
    Ernest, Arthur and Wilbert,
    of this city, and Robert of Newfane;
    four daughters, Mrs.
    George (Beatrice) Bacon, Mrs.
    Arthur (Alice) Ekins, Mrs. Wallace
    (Emma) Jaenecke, all of
    this city, and Mrs. Samuel

    Mr. and Mrs. Ernest L. Vigrass
    of 16 Park Ave. will celebrate
    their golden wedding anniversary,
    tomorrow evening, with a garden
    party at their home. They were
    married in North Tonawanda Sept.
    6 1899 by the Rev. Walter Lord
    and have lived in the Tonawandas
    most of their lives. The Rev. Lord
    will attend the celebration.
    Mr. Vigrass, who retired from
    business three years ago, waa
    born in England and came to Canada
    at the age of one. Later he
    moved to North Tonawanda. Mrs.
    Vigrass, 70, the former Emma
    Romanowsky, was born in Tonawanda.
    Mr. and Mrs. Vigrass are the
    parents of four sons, Ernest Arthur,
    Wilbert, Robert and five
    daughters, Mrs. George Bacon,
    Mrs. Harold Voisinet, Mrs. Arthur
    Ekins, Mrs. Samuel and Mrs.
    Wallace Jaenecke. They have 16
    grandchildren and four great
    grandchildren.
