The death of Mrs. Mary P. Jones occurred
at the home of Miss Helen/Gaylord
at Lyons Falls, Saturday evening,
December 29th, after an illness of
nearly five years. She was a lifelong
resident of Turin and vicinity, except
for tbe past few years, when falling
health caused her to close her
home here and go to Lyons Falls for
care and medical attendance. Mary
Payne Jones was the daughter of the
late Newton and Elijah Swackhammer
Payne and was born November 3,
1863. She was educated in the local
schools and for a, time attended school
in Syracuse, after which she was a
teacher of various schools in this and
adjoining towns. In 1878 she was
united in marriage to Ralph Richmond,
who passed away in 1881. She again
taught school for several years, and
In 1892 was married to John H. Jones.
Two children were born to them, a
son and daughter. Mr. Jones passed
away in 1902 and the son in 1917. The
latter was an invalid for many years
and it is thought the constant care and
devotion given him by a loving mother
laid the foundation fpr what finally
terminated In her last iUness. She
was a member of the M; E. church and
a regular attendant as long as health
permitted. She was also a member
of Turin Grange. She is survived by
one daughter, Mrs. Harold T. Allen,
of White Plains; one sister, Mrs.
Uranus Reibennacht, of Port Leyden,
and three brothers, Emerson and
George Payne, of West Turin, and
Ralph Payne, of Turin; also several
nephews and nelces. The funeral service
was held at the home, of Miss
Helen Gaylord, Lyons Falls, Wednesday,
January 2, Rev. C. M. Smith, of
Brownville, a former pastor, offlclat-
Ing; interment at Colllnsville cemetery.
