    NIAGARA FALLS —

    Vito A. Alongi, 93, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Carmelena (Meli) Alongi.
    Vito moved to Brooklyn, NY, as child with his family, where he was raised and educated in the Brooklyn Public School System. He moved back to Niagara Falls in the late 1930's, and in 1939 began a thirty-two year career with the former Hooker Chemical Company as a Class A Machinist retiring in 1975. During World War II, Vito served in the United States Army-Air Force as a Staff Sergeant stationed in Alaska from 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1944. On September 23, 1950, he married Hilkka E. (Detch) Alongi in St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Alongi predeceased him on April 5, 2008. Vito was extremely handy and skilled at a wide range of repairs. He particularly enjoyed woodworking and auto repair, and in his leisure time also enjoyed gardening.
    Mr. Alongi is survived by his four children, Camille (Michael) Tower of Lucas, TX, Angela (John) Sondej of Guilford, CT, Joseph V. Alongi of the Town of Wheatfield, NY and Vito M. Alongi of Bristol, NY; six grandchildren, Julie, Scott, Brett and Matt Tower, Nicholas and Christopher Sondej; two sisters, Lilyan (late Robert) Buresch of Lewiston, NY, and Josephine (Eugene) Campana of Niagara Falls, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one brother, Anthony (Corrine of North Tonawanda, NY) Alongi; and one sister, Carmella (late James) Bruno.
    Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-9 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Saturday, November 10th at 11:45 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 PM in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Ave., Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. Entombment with Military Honors will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Lewiston, NY.

    Woodlawn Ave., a retired National
    Carbon Co. employe,
    died today (June 29, 1962) at
    Memorial Hospital.
    Mr. Alongi was pronounced
    dead on arrival at the hospital
    where he was taken after
    suffering an apparent heart
    attack at home. A firefighter
    Inhalator crew, summoned to
    the home, administered oxygen
    for 15 minutes.
    A native of Italy, Mr. Alongi
    came to this country in
    1909, settling first in Brook-
    lyn. He was a Niagara Falls
    resident for 21 years and was
    employed by the National
    Carbon Co. here for 11 years
    prior to his retirement.
    Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
    Millie Alongi; two sons, Vito
    and Anthony Alongi, and
    three daughters, Mrs. James
    (Carmelo) Bruno. Mrs. Robert
    (Lillian) Buresch, and Mrs.;
    Eugene (Josephine). Campana,
    all of this city. Also surviving
    are two brothers, Anthony
    Alongi, this city, and Alfonso
    Alongi, California, a brother
    and two sisters In Italy, 15
    grandchildren and s e v e r al
    nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be
    held at 8:45 a.m. Monday at
    the Magaddlno M e m o r i al
    Chapel Inc., andat 9:30 a.m.
    at Our Lady of Mt Carmel
    Church. Burial will be in
    Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

    Bom in Agrigento, Sicily, she
    came to this country in 1913.
    After living in Brooklyn for 20
    years, she came to this city and
    had lived here since. She was
    a member of Our Lady of Mount
    Carmel Church.
    She is survived by three daughters,
    Mrs. J a m e s (Carmel)
    Bruno; Mrs. Robert (Lilyan)
    Buresch, and Mrs. Eugene (Jo-

    to'10 p.m.
