    SAUQUOIT - Mrs: Laura
    Alton, 63, of-Sulphur Springs
    Road, proprietor of the Alton
    Diner, died yesterday in the
    St. Luke's Memorial Hospital
    after a brief illness.
    She was born in Canada;
    daughter-of Bruce and Elsie
    Newman Gorham. She came
    to this country and to Poland
    as a child and attended
    school in Poland and Morris-
    ville.
    She was. married To John
    Alton in Poland in 1933 The
    couple came to Sauquoit in
    1939. Mrs.- Alton has also been
    employed by the Alexander
    Hamilton Inn. Clinton and
    Hart's Hill Inn.
    Mrs. Alton was a member
    of the Paris United Church of
    Christ, and belonged to the
    Paris Grange. She was a past
    lecturer of - the Panoma
    Grange.
    Besides her husband she
    leaves two sons; Alfred of
    Hilton and Thomas of Clark
    Mills; five daughters; Miss
    "Amy" Alton, Washington
    Mills; Mrs. James (Kath-
    erine) Moore, Clinton; Mrs.
    John (Margaret) Roselli,
    New Hartford;, Mrs,. John
    (Ruth; Ivancic. Sauquoit;
    Mrs. Edward (Prisilla) Dragulski,
    of Oneida; a brother,
    Peter Gorham, Poland; and a
    sister Mrs. Ella Lehrnann,
    Norman, Okla.
    The funeral will be Monday
    at the convenience of the
    family from the J. Donald
    Smith Funeral Home, Sau-
    quoit Cremation will take
    place in Waterville.
    There are no calling
    hours.

    Poland-Thomas Alton, Sr.,
    61, died July 20, 1944, in his
    home here following a three
    weeks' illness.
    He was born in England
    and came to this country 39
    years ago. He was engaged
    in farming for the most of his life
    with the exception of the
    last two years when he was
    employed by the Jamestown
    Veneer and Pywood Corp.,
    this village.
    He married Miss Frances
    Galliers in England in 1904.
    He was a member of the Rus-
    sia Grange.
    He leaves, besides hiswife
    one daughter. Mrs. Lynn
    Fitch. Poland: four sons. Reu-
    ben and Thomas Jr., Poland,
    John, Sauquoit, and George,
    Forestport; two brothers,
    Reuben, Ohio, and John, Burn-
    ley, England; and a sister,
    Mrs. Mary Menzie Burnley,
    England.
    The funeral will be held at
    2 p.m. Sunday from the
    family home. the Rev. Francis
    Gienister will officiate and
    burial will be in Poland.

    Gray-Miss Thelma Vedder, daughter
    of Mr. and Mra. W. D. Vedder,
    was married to Reuben Alton, son of
    Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Alton. Russia,
    at the home of the bride's parents at
    1 p. m. Saturday. Miss Mary Alton,
    sister of the groom. and Charles Cedder,
    brother of the bride, were the
    attending couple.
    The bride was attired in blue.
    carrying white roses, while the bridesmaid
    was dressed is pink and carried
    pink roses. After a wedding luncheon
    at the home of the bride, the young
    couple departed for a trip to ths
    Thousand . Islands, Only immediate
    relatives were present. They will re-
    side in Gray.
