    LOCKPORT — Loraine D. Bars, of Lockport, NY, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2012. Born on December 12, 1922 in the Town of Cambria, she was the daughter of Melvin and Doris Roberts Brewer. She was a homemaker and farmer's wife.

    Mrs. Bars was predeceased by her husband, John Bars, Jr.; her son, James A. Bars and two grandchildren, Jonathan Bars and Angela Sevenski. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Valley; grandchildren, Michael (Darlene) Valley, Michele (Kurt) Johnson, James (Karen) Bars and Jennifer Bars; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.

    Friends may call on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Lange Funeral Home, Inc., 186 East Ave., Lockport, NY, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM. Interment in North Ridge Cemetery.     A beautiful wedding ceremony was

    solemnized Sept. 20 at 4 o'clock In
    at Paul's Evangelical Lutheran
    Church Wolcottsburg, when the Rev.
    Henrv Koenig united to marriage
    Miss Loraine Brewer, daughter of
    Mr and Mrs. Melvin Brewer of 238
    East avenue, Lockport, and John
    Bars, jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. John
    Bars Raymond Hill. Lockport.
    The organist was Mrs. Helen Webb
    and Mrs. Emmile Wallingburg sang
    "Because" and "O, Promise Me."
    The bride's gown of white slipper
    satin was fashioned with a sweetheart
    neckline and alencon lace
    panels the length of the train. She
    £ore a full-length veil of Illusion
    caught to a coronet of orange bkwi
    soms and carried an arm bouquet
    of white roses, pom pons and gypsophila.
    Miss Loraine Muchow was maid of
    honor and Miss Sharon Brewer,
    cousin of the bride and daughter
    of Mr and Mrs. Leonard Brewer
    of Lockport, was flower girl. Miss
    Muchow's dress was of blue slipper
    Satin with a quilted jacket. She car-
    ried an arm bouquet of talisman
    roses, delphinium and gladioli and
    wore a crescent of flowers in her
    hair with a shoulder length veil.
    The flower girl wore a floor-length
    gown of peach taffeta and carried
    a colonial bouquet of mixed flowers.
    She also wore a crescent of flowers
    in her hair with a shoulder-length
    veil.

    The bridesmaid, Miss Grace
    Kanehl wore a dress fashioned like
    pthaTof the maid of honor and made
    of pink slipper satin with a quilted
    icket. She carried an arm bouquet
    of talisman roses, delphinium and

    gladioli. She also wore a crescent
    of flowers in her hair with a shoulder-
    length veil.
    The best man was the bride's
    brother, Merwin Brewer of Lockport
    and Gerald Brewer, cousin of the
    bride and son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester
    Brewer, was ring bearer. Ushers
    were Lester Bar, Derwood Roberts
    and Wilfred Roberts.
    The bride was given in marriage
    by her father. The mother of the
    bride wore black chiffon velvet with
    matching
    accessories and a corsage
    of gardenias and the groom's mother
    wore a plum crepe dress with matching
    accessories and corsage of pom
    pons.
    White gladioli and ferns decorated
    the church and the altar was decorated
    with garden flowers.
    Following the ceremony, a dinner
    and reception were held at the Park
    hotel, 100 friends and relatives attending.
    Twelve were seated at the
    bride's table, which was centered
    with a three-tiered cake and rosebuds
    to a bowl with crystal holders
    at either end.
    Mr. and Mrs. Bars left for a trip
    to Washington, toe bride wearing a

    wine velvet dress with matching accessories.
    They will reside at Raymond Hill.
    Quests were present from Ohio,
    Youngstown, Wilson, Ransomvllle,
    Clarence Center, Sanborn, Wolcottsburg
    and Lockport.
    Pre-nuptial events Included a personal
    shower given by Mrs. Viola
    Gtest; a variety shower given by Mrs.
    Russel Roberts; a variety shower
    given by Mrs. Robert Bell.
    A red and white kitchen shower by
    Mrs. P. O. Wlghtman; a linen
    shower by Mrs. Chester Brewer and
    Mrs. Leonard Brewer; and a variety
    shower given by Miss Loraine Muchow
    and Miss Grace Kanehl.

    afternoon (April 28, 1956) at
    the home of his daughter, Mrs.

    He was born Oct. 5, 1869. in
    the Town of Newstead, Erie County,
    son of Charles and Rachael
    Bars. He was a trustee of Raymond
    Hill Community Church.
    A week ago on Sunday he and
    his wife, the former Elisabeth Al
    tro, observed their 60th wedding
    anniversary.
    Besides his wife and daughter,
    Mrs. Bell, he leaves another
    daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Hall of
    Cincinnati, O , four sons, Roy L.,
    Lockport, Warren F.. Hartland.
    Lester C, Clarence Center and
    John Jr., Raymond Hill; three sisters,
    Mrs. Anna Cable, Lockport;
    Mrs. William Siegler, New fane and
    Mrs. Emma Klutts, Middleport; 13
    grandchildren and 15 great-grand
    children.
    Services will be held Wednes
    day afternoon at 2 o'clock at the
    home of the son; John Jr., Beattie
    Ave . Raymond Hill. The Rev.
    Everett Davis of Raymond Community
    Church, will officiate. Burial
    wdl be in Hartland Central

    Mr. and Mrs. John Bars, RD 3 Lockport,^who spent their
    childhoods in log cabins in Western New York. Monday marked
    the 50th anniversary of their wedding. In honor ol the occa-
    sion, they were entertained at a surprise iamily dinner party at
    Park Hotel Saturday evening attended by 32 persons
    This is the third golden wedding
    observed in recent years in Mr
    Bars' family.
    For the past quarter of a cen-
    tury the oouple has resided at
    their 196-acre farm at Raymond
    Hill.
    Mrs. Bars, the former Elizabeth
    Altro. daughter of Mr. and Mrs
    Fred Altro, was born in the Town
    of Clarence. When she was six
    months old, she moved to a log
    cabin in the Kinne Road.
    At the age of 13, Mrs. bars fam-
    ily settled on a neighboring farm
    and she remained there until her
    marriage by the Rev. S. E. Way.
    Erie County Native
    Mr. Bars was born in a log cab.n
    in the Town of Newstead.- Erie
    County, and moved to Niagara
    County at the age of nine, where
    he attended a district school. He
    is still active as a successful
    farmer.
    "The log cabin was town down
    shortly after we moved," Mrs. Bars
    said, as she vividly recalled the
    crowded conditions in the two -room
    hut for the family fo four, and her
    daily two-mile hike to the district
    school.
    "The most noticeable change I
    have seen through the years is in
    farm machinery. When I was a
    child, I remember my father work-
    ing the land with wooden imple-
    ments, drawn by horses."
    Farming Family
    Both Mr. and Mrs. Bars parents
    were lifelong farmers. Their grand-
    parents were natives of Germany.
    After their marriage, the couple
    moved to the Town of Royalton.
    They have six children: Mrs.
    Robert Bell, Transit Road; Mrs.
    Edward Wartman, Cincinnati, O.;
    Roy and John Bars, Town of Lock-
    port; Warren Bars, Gasport RD 1;
    Lester Bars, Clarence Center.
    Mrs. Bars had a brother, Clarence
    Altro, living at Gasport RD. Her
    husband has four sisters:
    Mrs. William Dietz, Newstead;
    Mrs. Fred Cable, 127 Spalding St.;
    Mrs. William Seigler, Newfane;
    Mrs. DeForest Klutts, Middleport.

    The bride of 50 years ago was
    gowned in blue silk faille, trimmed
    with gold lace. The groom wore his

    Four Generations Present
    Mr. and Mrs. Brauer have nine
    children living, twenty five grand
    children, and six great grand child-
    ren.
    The children who were preent to
    extend their congratulations were
    Messers Charles, Fred, Melvin and
    Albert Brauer with their wives and
    Meadames Minnie Heidenreich of
    Cleveland, O. and Matilda Edmonds
    of Rosburg, Ore. Mrs August
    Schendel, Mrs. William Heiman and
    their husbands and a sister of the
    bride Mrs. Charles Hanson.
    The grand children who attended
    were Mr. and Mra Rohrlng, Mr. and
    Mrs. HolHns, Joseph Heidenrelch,
    Mr. and Mra Ertman Leonard, Chester,
    Herbert, Richard Lorralnt, Marvin,
    Evelyn and Everett Brauer and
    Velma and Vernon Helman.

    Other guests were, Miss Jeanstts
    Ertman, Mr. and Mrs. Angenlne,
    Mrs. Frank Linstedt, Mary Leaker,
    Marcus Schendel, Isadora Leeds.
    Mr. and Mra Brauer have lived
    in this vicinity ths fifty years of
    married life and received congratulations

    their Golden Wedding trip
    until later on account of the visit
    of their daughter, Mrs Edmonds of
    Oregon.

    The guests came from Buffalo and
    husked about 150 bushel of corn on
