    In 2-Car Crash
    Lorne^ D. _Johnston, 38, East
    Syracuse! ^on of Mrs. Clara
    Johnston, 187 East Ninth St., was
    killed in a two-car accident at S.;
    Townsend and Jackson Sts.. Syracuse,
    about midnight Saturday.
    Harvey Williams, 22, of 305 S.'
    Crouse Ave.. Syracuse, is being;
    held by Syracuse police for investigation,
    Deputy Chief Benjamin
    Roberts of Syracuse said yesterday.
    Williams suffered a minor
    leg injury.
    Johnston's death was due to a
    fractured neck and skull.
    Police said it was the first
    fatality of the year in Syracuse
    involving automobiles. Both men
    were driving alone. Police quoted
    Williams as saying he stogped for
    a ' stop sign and then started
    across the intersection; that he
    saw the car a block away and
    that it suddenly loomed up in
    front of him. Johnston was thrown
    from his auto and apparently
    killed when he struck the pave-;
    ment.
    Besides his mother in Oswego,
    Johnston is survived by his wife,
    Mrs. Evelyn Saul Johnston; a son,
    Charles D.; a daughter, Lorna; a
    sister, Mrs. Loren Ausderau of
    Niagara Falls. He was a nephew
    of James Hillick of Mexico and
    the late William D. and C. Fred
    Hillick of Fulton.
    Johnston was an employe of
    the Carrier Corporation and had
    worked at the Thompson road
    plant for six years. He was a veteran
    of World War II and a member
    of the DeWitt Community
    church.
    Services will be conducted Tuesday
    at 2:30 p. m. at the Welter;
    funeral home, Syracuse. Burial
    will be in White Chapel cemetery,
    DeWitt.
