    The Bear, road running south
from the Ridge road to the Lock-.
port road is not named after the
bears that roamed the woods there
in the early days, but after an
old settler on the road named
Jonas Baer who settled there in
    the 1830's. He married a 16-year-old
    French girl who .could not
speak a word of. English. She
-went to school nearby to learn
English.. He was a weaver by
trade, raised his own flax arid
wove linens. He also wove woolen
