    Verna R. Bailey, 91, of Newfane, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving children May 10, 2022.
    She was born August 4, 1930 in the Town of Hartland a daughter of the late Emory and Rose (Schultz) Bluman.  Verna was a lifelong resident of Hartland and Newfane.  She was a member of the Buffalo Club of the Deaf.  Verna enjoyed baking, dancing, gardening,  playing cards and had traveled to all but 2 states.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
    She was predeceased by her husbands, Clarence O. Bailey in 1990 and Robert Wesolowski 2018.  She is survived by her children, Arlene J. Smith, David J. (Susan) Bailey, Barbara J. (Christopher) Aikin, Gary J. (Lori Wagner) Bailey, Robert J. (Kathy) Bailey and Pamela J. (Brian) Rakfeldt; 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way.
    The family will receive friends at the Sherrie Bream and Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home 4521 Main St. Gasport on Saturday May 14, from 10:00am-12:00pm.  Verna’s funeral service will follow at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 7147 Ridge Rd. Lockport at 12:30pm.  Interment will be in Hartland Central Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Club of The Deaf, 2275 Clinton St. Buffalo, NY 14206 or Miller Hose Co. 6161 McKee St. Newfane, NY 14108.

    LOCKPORT—An autopsy has revealed that a
    heart attack caused the death of Clarence D. Bailey,
    56, of 5285 Lower Mountain Road, Town of Lockport,
    who was found Monday afternoon in the midst of a
    spreading grass fire on the used car lot he operated.
    Mr. Bailey, an auto dealer
    here for more than 30 years,
    was found lying in the center
    of a grass-car' fire by a neighbor,
    Allen Graham, 5320 Blck-
    ert Place, Just east of the used
    car lot
    Mr. and Mrs. Graham saw
    smoke coming from the used
    car lot. They ran over to the
    lot, but could not locate Mr.
    Bailey. Mr. Graham then
    spotted Mr. Bailey lying near
    the center of the blaze which
    had spread to a car.
    Mr. Graham called the
    South Lockport Volunteer Fire
    Co. which put out the blase.
    He also called the Niagara
    County Sheriffs Department.
    Two deputies came to the
    scene, where they found the
    grass and a car in flames.
    Mr. Graham showed them the
    body of a man was was Identified
    as Clarence Bailey by
    his son, Clarence Bailey Jr.
    of Newfane.
    Deputies said it seemed apparent
    that Mr. Bailey was
    trying to extinguish the blase
    with a broom which was found
    near his body. No cause has
    been determined for the blase.
    Coroner Oscar H. Bell di-
    rected the Gaul Funeral Home
    to take the body to Lockport
    Memorial Hospital, where an
    autopsy was performed. Mr.
    Bell said that Mr. Bailey also
    had suffered serious back
    burns.

    Agency here, which he operated
    until 1999. He then resumed
    seUing used cars. Before
    entering the automobile
    business, he w a s employed
    for several years by Eugene
    O'Byrne and Sons, a feed business.

    Lockport Power Seuadren
    and the Niagara County Ser-
    Iff s Department Marine Patrol.

    Alice F. Bailey (Nee Strassburg) age 95 of Newfane, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Lockport Memorial Hospital. Born June 1, 1912 in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Alvina (Behm) Strassburg. She married Clarence D. Bailey in 1930. He predeceased her on November 21, 1966. Alice worked for R.J. Reynolds/Nabisco for several years and retired in 1973. She loved gardening and bird watching. Mother of the late: William Bailey and The late Clarence O. Bailey. Mother-in-law of: Verna (Robert) Wesolowski of Gowanda and Mary Bailey of E. Amherst. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Arlene Smith of Appleton, David Bailey of Lockport, Barbara (Chris) Aikin of Sanborn, Gary Bailey of Appleton, Robert (Kathy) Bailey of Newfane, Pamela (Brian) Rakfeldt of Appleton, Carol Bailey of Buffalo, Thomas Bailey of East Amherst, and Michael (Tina) Bailey of East Amherst. She is also survived by 2 great-great grandchildren: Tyler Smith and Ian Kepple. Sister of the late: Harvey A., Norman A., and Clarence E. Strassburg. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am from the funeral home with Deacon Kenneth L. Craig officiating. Interment will be in Corwin Cemetery.     Bailey. 74. formerly of Barker, died
    Sunday at the home of Mrs. Fay
    Spears, Gasport. ,
    Born in July, 1878. she lived in
    the vicinity of Barker most of her
    life and married Dan Bailey when
    she was 18 years old. They were
    fanners all their lives.
    Her husband died 18 years ago
    and about two and half years ago,
    she moved to the home of Mrs.
    Spears. She was a member of
    West Somerset Baptist Church.
    Mrs. Bailey is survived by three
    sons, Roy A., Clarence O. of Newfane
    and Joseph E. of Lockport;
    three sisters, Mrs. Alice Maynard
    of Lyndonvule, Mrs. Ethel Meland
    and Miss Lillian Bowers of Barker;

    Otto A. Strassburg, 81, of 38 North End Ave., Kenmore, died Tuesday in Meyer Memorial Hospital, Buffalo, after a lengthy illness.
    A retired carpenter, Mr. Strassburg was a member of Newfane Lodge 947, F&AM. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alice Bailey of Newfane, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
    Four sisters and a brother also survive.
    Services will be at the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Ward Road, North Tonawanda, at 1:30 P.M. Saturday with the Rev. Russell R. Meyers officiating. Burial will be in Corwin Cemetery, Newfane.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Alvina Strassburg, age 44 years, were held at her late home. Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. and from the German Lutheran church, Ridgeway, at 2:30, the Rev. P. Stiebit, pastor of the church officiating. Interment was in Corwin cemetery.
