Mary Byrne Sy of Lockport, NY passed away on Monday April 3, 2017 at Beechwood Continuing Care after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on August 6, 1937 in Lockport, she was the daughter of Joseph and Frances Murphy Byrne. Mary graduated high school from St. Joseph’s Academy and college from SUNY Oswego. She married Thomas E. Sy on November 21, 1959 and he predeceased her in 2002. Mary was Co-Director and teacher of Nursery School at Emmanuel United Methodist Church for over 25 years, retiring in 1999. She was active in area civic organizations including Lockport College Women’s Club, Lockport Junior Service League and St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Society. Mary enjoyed reading, playing bridge, travel and time with family.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Thomas E. Sy; son, Timothy (Ann) Sy; grandchildren, Mathew and Heather Sy and siblings, John, Joseph and Nancy Byrne. She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Diane) Sy and Michael (Bridget) Sy and grandchildren, Ashley Sy (Brett) Roesler, Rachael, Brianne, Madeline, Jessica and Samantha Sy.
Friends may call on Thursday 3:00 – 7:00 PM at LANGE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 186 East Ave., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 AM at All Saint R.C. Parish, 76 Church St., Lockport. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery. floral appliques. The wedding
gown was styled with
a scoop neckline, short
sleeves and cathedral-length
train.
Miss Nancy Byrne, maid
of honor, Was attired in a
gown of rose glow velvet
with scoop neckline and
street-length full skirt. A
bow headpiece with veil of
matehing color, and a bouquet
of deep red carnations
and pink pompons completed
her ensemble.
