Sybil Joyce Baker (Pope), 85 of Niagara Falls was joyously received by her heavenly father on April 12, 2017. Born in Bessemer, Alabama on May 7, 1931 to Lemuel and Vivian Pope.
Sybil’s family moved to Niagara Falls when she was a young girl. She attended and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1949. Before graduation at a dance at Calvary Baptist she met the love of her life, John W. Baker Jr.
Their life began together when they exchanged vows on August 11, 1951. Together they had three beautiful daughters, Judithann Baker-Tyrrell (fiancé Mike), Janet Baker Scott (Jeff), and Jacqueline Baker. In time, their family expanded to include seven beloved grandchildren, Stephanie Hummel, Carleen Krysa-Wills(Dan), John W. Baker III, Gina Bane, Christopher Fournier, Dana Tyrrell Jr. and Carolyn Tyrrell. Additionally Sybil cherished six great-grandsons, Bryce, Tyler, Alphonso, Cameron, Daniel, John and Cal. She is also the sister of Geraldine (late Ronald) Sutter, Janet Pope and Edward Pope. She was predeceased by four siblings, Floyd (Shirley) Pope, Joeanne Wagner, Mary Sutter and Darleen Hausser.
Sybil had a rich life. She was employed by WT Grants and E.I.DuPont from which she retired. She was an active member of Niagara Community Church for more than thirty years. She was passionate about her service to the church. She enjoyed a variety of roles, including volunteering in the church office, running the food pantry and being a greeter. She enjoyed gardening and those who got to experience her gardens marveled at the beauty she was able to create. She loved reading, crocheting, baking but most of all being with her family.
She was joyously reunited with her late husband John W. Baker Jr. in heaven. He predeceased her on April 9, 2000.
Family will welcome guests to M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls on Monday, April 17th from 4 – 8 P.M. Funeral services will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Tuesday at Niagara Community Church, 10500 Cayuga Drive Niagara Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations to the Heritage Education Program, 2643 Main Street, Buffalo NY 14214.

double ring ceremony officiated
over by the Rev. Blake B. Hammond
in Redeemer Episcopal
church. The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel. Pope,
Town of Niagara,, and the bridegroom
is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Baker, Twenty-fourth street.
They will make their home at
2252 Whitney avenue, after their
return from their wedding trip in
Canada.

Redeemer .Episcopal church was
the setting last Saturday for the
wedding service which united in
marriage Miss Sybil Joyce Pope,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel
Pope, Town of Niagara, and Mr.
John W. Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Baker, Twenty-fourth street.
The Rev. Blake B. Hammond officiated
at the double-ring ceremony.
Mr. David Brown sang "The
Lord's Praver and "O p e r f e c t Love"
The bride, who was given in mar-
riage by her father, wore a gown of
Chantilly lace and pleated nylon
net over white satin. Her veil of
nylo n embroidered net was held by
a Juliet cap trimmed with lilies-of-
the-valley. She carried white roses
with an orchid center.
Miss Jo Ann Pope, sister of the
bride, was maid of honor. She wore
a blue gown of lace and net over
satin and carried pink roses. Miss
Jeanne Paron and Mrs. Floyd Pope
were bridesmaids. Their gowns of
pink and yellow were identical to
that worn by the maid of honor and
they carried matching roses. Darken
Pope was flower girl. She was
dressed as a miniature bride and
carried a colonial-bouquet ot white
roses.
Mr. Fred Baker was his twin
brother's best man. The ushers were
Mr. Floyd Pope and Mr. James
LaVrence.
A reception at the church hall
was held in the evening. The bride's
mother wore a navy ensemble with
pink accessories and the bridegroom's
mother chose a pink dress
with navy accessories.
For the wedding trip to Canada
the bride selected a rose suit with
navy accessories. After their return
they will reside at 2252 Whitney
avenue.
