    Richard A. Baker, 66, a retired
    custodian at Tonawanda City Hall
    tor 18 years, died Sunday at
    Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a
    brief illness.
    He retired in 1977. He was a
    member of Niagara Hose Company.
    Tonawanda Exempt Volunteer
    Firemen's Association and the
    KldredgeClub.
    Survivors include two daughters,
    Mrs David C 'Bonnie) Adams of
    Tonawanda and Mrs. Paul
    Sharon) Brzezinski of Omaha,
    Neb , a son, Richard D. (Joan)
    Baker of E. Amherst; his mother,
    Mrs. Helena Baker of Tonawanda;
    two brothers, Howard L. (Delores)
    Baker and Walter J. Baker both of
    Tonawanda. six grandchildren and
    several nieces and nephews.

    Desk Lieutenant Walter J. Baker,
    who succumbed to an illness of a
    few days with pneumonia in the
    General hospital, Buffalo as an
    nounced in The Mews yesterday.
    was one of the best known members
    of the Tonawanda police department.
    He became a member
    of the department on March 6,
    1916, serving first as patrolman,,
    later as desk lieutenant and then
    as chief in 1926 and 1927, follow-
    int which he rturned to the posi-
    tion which he occupied at the time
    of his death.
    Baker was a life-long resident of
    Tonawanda. He was prominent as
    a football and baseball player in
    his early manhood. He was the
    father of Richard Baker, who was
    an outstanding member of the
    Tonawanda high school football
    team in recent years.
    Baker was identified with a number
    of civic and fraternal organisations.
    His associations included
    memberships in Niagara River
    lodge, No. 527, I.O.O F.; Niagara
    Encampment, No. 132, I.O.O.F.;
    North Tonawanda lodge. No. 860,
    B.P.O.E.; the Niagara Hose company,
    the Eldredge Bicycle club,
    and the First Presbyterian church
    When the Frontier Police club
    was organized by the Tonawanda
    police department, Baker was chos-
    en its president.
    He is survived by a wife. Helena;
    a daughter. Pearl; three sons, Richard
    A., Howard L. and Walter J..
    Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob
    Baker; two sisters, the Misses
    Lydia and Pauline, all of Tona-
    wanda, and four brothers, Harvey,
    Tonawanda, Elmer, Batavia, Ralph,
    Irvington, N.J., and Robert, Monti-
    cello, N.Y.
    Funeral services will be .held
    Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock
    from the residence, 447 Fletcher
    street. Rev. Wesley Baker of the
    First Presbyterian church will officiate.
    The services will be in
    charge of Niagara River lodge.
    Members of the police department
    will act as pallbearers. Burial will
    be in White Chapel cemetery.
