  1. 1.  BANEY, Roy was born on 18 Apr 1901 in Clearfield, Clearfield County, PA (son of BANEY, George and Winnie); died on 9 Oct 1961 in Town of Niagara, Niagara County, NY.

    TOWN OF NIAGARA-A 3-year-old girl
    was credited with trying to save the life
    of her grandfather Monday by. running
    to their home, a mile and a half away, to
    report that he had collapsed in a field. -
    Three-year-old Dora Sobotka was aided
    though, by two neighbors before she completed
    the long trek home.
    Roy Baney, 60. of 4316 Military Road,
    the grandfather, was stricken with a fatal
    heart attack while he and Dora were gathering
    topsoil in a field near Grauer Road.
    Airs. Roger Hallam. Military Road, said
    she went out to help the frantic child
    when she saw Dora trying to cross the
    highway.
    "Grandpa has fallen down and'I can't
    wake him up,'' the child pleaded.
    Dora and. Mrs. Hallam continued the
    run. When they were near exhaustion they
    were picked up in a car by Mrs. Forrest
    Bierley, of Grauer Road. She returned
    them to Mr. Baney and then went to call
    for help. Both firemen and State- Police
    were called.
    Mr. Baney was taken to Memorial Hospital
    in Niagara Falls by Niagara Fire Co.
    No. 1 ambulance, but he was pronounced
    dead on arrival. He had been under treatment
    for a lengthy heart ailment.
    Mr. Baney " was a. retired electrician
    from the .Niagara Frontier State Park Commission.
    He had lived in this town for
    the last 31 years. He was a charter member
    of the fire company and was an exempt
    fireman. He also was a member of the
    Senior Citizens group at Niagara-Wheatfield
    Central School.
    Mr. Baney was a native of Clearfield,
    Pa.
    Besides his granddaughter, he is survived
    by his widow, Mrs. Helen Baney;
    two daughters. Mrs. Rose Sobotka and
    Miss Marie Baney, of Niagara Falls, N.Y.;
    four sons, William, Louis, Harry and
    Charles Baney. all of Niagara Falls.
    Funeral services will be conducted at
    1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Grimes Funeral
    Home by Maj. R. L. Knaggs of the Salvation
    Army. Burial will be in Memorial
    Park Cemetery.
