    Funeral services -were held
    Friday (Feb. 9, 1968) in Ar-
    lington National Cemetery for
    Lt. Col. Robert E. Whitbcck,
    U.S. Army, who was killed in
    action in Vietnam Jan. 30.
    Col. Whitbcck, 38. a native
    of Niagara Falls, was buried
    With full military honors.
    At the time of his death he
    was serving as the battalion
    commander of the 3rd Battalion
    319th Artillery (Airborne),
    173rd Airborne Brigade, a unit .
    he had commanded since Nov.
    30. 1967. Col. "Whitbeck Had
    served in Vietnam since July
    1967.
    A graduate of the University
    of Omaha. Col. Whitbcck,
    was a veteran of the Korean
    conflict. He began his military
    career in 1946 and. received
    his commission in 1953. His
    military schooling included
    the U.S. Army Command and
    General Staff College, the
    Special Forces Officer Course,
    the Senior Field Artillery Officer
    Course and the Artillery
    Career Course."
    He is survived by his wife,
    Joanne L. Whitbcck, the
    daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
    Delano E. Barber, 2214 Whitney
    Ave., and two daughters
    Susan B. and Elaine E. Whitbeck,
    all of Springfield, Va.
    He is also.survived by a
    brother, Dr. Richard R. Whitbeck,
    Williamsville.
