    William W. Barnum, 79, of 1527
    Niagara Ave., a resident of this
    city for 60 years, died today (Dec.
    5. 1957) at his home. He had been
    ill with a heart condition. .
    Mr. Barnum was born in Wilson
    and until 1941 had been the owner
    and operator of the W. W. Barnum
    and Son Dairy here for 35 years.
    After leaving the dairy business
    Mr. Barnum manufactured various
    pieces of dairy . equipment land,
    home and farm freezers which he
    had developed and patented. He
    retired in 1955.
    Mr. Barnum was a member of
    Lodge No. 346, BPOE.
    Survivors include a son, Jack
    Barnum, and two granddaughters,
    Joyce and Carol Barnum, all' of
    this city.:
    Funeral services will be held at
    11 a.m. Monday at the residence in
    Niagara Ave. Burial will be in Gate
    of Heaven Cemetery.

    Mrs. Clara M. Barnum, 70; of
    1658 South Ave., a registered nurse,
    and a member of the first graduating
    class of Mt. St, Mary's Nursing
    School, died today (July 10, 1956)
    at her home. She had been ill a
    short time.
    Born in Lancaster, Mrs. Barnum,
    the wife of William Barnum, retired
    milk dealer, resided in this city for
    the last 55 °years.
    An active member of Sacred
    Heart Church, Mrs, Barnum is survived
    by one son, Jack Barnum, this
    city; a sister, Miss Ann Batt, Tonawanda,
    and two grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be conduct-
    ed at 8:45 am, Friday at the
    residence. Burial Will be iri Gate
    of Heaven Cemetery after a Requiem
    Mass is offered at 9:15 a.m.

    A recent death at a Buffalo hospital
    was that of James Barnum. 70 yeara
    of age and a former resident of Wil-
    son where he had lived for 60 -years
    Besides a wife, a sister. Mrs. John
    Small of Lockport and two sons,
    Frederick Barnum of Wilson and
    William Barnum of Niagara Falls
    survive him.

    Mrs. Alida Barnum, 69 years old,
    widow of the late James Barnum, well
    known throughout Niagara Falls and
    vicinity, died at 12:15 o'clock yesterday
    afternoon at the home of her
    son, William W. Barnum. of No. 1616
    South avenue. She succumbed to an attack
    of pleurisy, having been ill at
    her son's, home for the past two
    weeks.
    Furneal services will be held from
    the St. James M. E. Church, South
    avenue, Saturday at one o'clock, the
    Rev. William Omssted officiating, and
    from the Wilson M. E. church at 3
    o'clock, with the Rev. Parding officiating.
    Burial will take place in the Greenwood
    cemetery, Wilson. The body will
    remain at the Dykstra funeral Parlors,
    No. 1619 Main street, until 12:30
    o'clock Saturday, and will then be
    conveyed to the church. After the
    services at tho St. James church,
    there will be a sufficient number of
    automobiles available for those who
    wish to attend the services at the Wilson
    church.
    Coming to this city over 22 years
    ago from Wilson, Mrs. Barnum established
    a residence In tho homo of her
    son, William W. ln South avenue.
    Since her arrival here she has been
    active in church affairs and has made
    many friends throughout Niagara
    Falls And vicinity. Her kindly disposition
    and her responsive attitude toward
    the needs of her friends and her
    neighborly affection mndo her beloved
    by all who came ln contact .with her.
    Numerous floral tributes from friends
    In Niagara Falls and vicinity have
    been received at the Dykstra undertaking
    rooms, as expressive of the
    sentiment ot those who knew her.
    Besides two sons, William W., of
    this city and Frederick, of Wilson, she
    te survived by two brothers, Charles
    And William Wallace, of Sanborn and
    Ridge Road, respectively, and a slater,
    Mary Wallober, of Sanborn.

    TONAWANDA, June 1 . - William
    B. Batt, 75, died late yesterday after-
    noon at his home, 423 Niagara street,
    after a long illness. He was a retired
    manufacturer of soft drinks. He was
    born inCheektowaga and had resid-
    ed here for the past 65 years. He was
    an exempt fireman, having served
    with the Niagara hose company. He
    is survived by his wife, Ida Batt; one
    son, Edward G.; four daughters,
    Anna and Ida Batt and Mrs. Bert
    Lewis, all of Tonawanda, and Mrs.
    W. W. Barnum, of Niagara Falls,
    and eight grandchildren. The funeral
    will be Monday at 8:30 a.m. from
    the house and at 8 o'clock from St.
    Francis church. Interment will be in
    Mt. Olivet cemetery.

    Xavier Batt, 81 years old, died sud
    denly at his home at No. 69 Main
    street late yesterday afternoon. Coroner
    George B. Helwig was called this
    morning to Investigate the cause of
    the man's death and pronounced it due
    to heart disease.
    Mr. Batt was connected with the
    North Tonawanda street department
    for many years and was working half
    an hour before he died. He was sit
    ting in a chair at his home, talking with, members of his family and other
    relatives, when he was stricken. Dr.
    C. W. Clendenan and Dr. R. H. Wilcox
    were called but the man was
    dead when they arrived.
    Mr. Batt came to this country from
    Germany when he was four years old
    and settled at Cheektowaga. They
    were passengers on the schooner Mary
    which was caught in a storm on the
    Atlantic and for many days threatened
    with destruction. The boat was
    113 days crossing the ocean. During
    the storm the passengers made a vow
    that they would erect a chapel in honor
    of the Mother of Our Lord. This
    chapel was erected at Cheektowaga
    and is known as "Our Lady Help of
    Christians." It was in the cemetery
    at the rear of the edifice that Mr.
    Batt's parents were buried. He will
    be buried in the same plot.
    Before coming to the Tonawandas 41
    years ago, Mr. Batt conducted a brew

    ery at Williamsville. Upon locating
    here he opened a flour mill and was
    later engaged in the manufacture of
    shingles. His mill was one of the finest
    of its kind to be operated in the
    Tonawandas.
    Had Mr. Batt lived,until July 4, 1914
    he and his wife would have observed
    their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
    Besides his wife, Mr. Batt Is survived
    by four daughters, Mrs. John Netter,
    Mrs. Helen Rathgeber, Mrs. Cather-
    ine Graff and Miss Rose Batt and five
    sons, William, Frank, Charles, Edward
    and Albert of Tonawanda and Casper
    of Cleveland- He leaves 35 grand-
    children and 5 great grandchildren.
    The, funeral will be held at the chapel
    at Cheektowaga Monday morning

    Mrs. Catherine Batt, 85 years old.
    widow of the late Xavier Batt, died
    Saturday at her late home at No. 60
    Main street, North Tonawanda. Her
    death followed an illness of two
    weeks. Mrs. Batt was born in the
    town of Cheektowaga and came to
    the Tonawandas to reside in 1868.
    With her family she located on Main
    street in North Tonawanda and continued
    her residence there during the
    rest of her life.
    Mrs. Batt is survived by four
    daughters, Mrs. John Netter, Mrs.
    Helen Rathgeber, Mrs. David Graff
    and Miss Rose Batt; five sons, William,
    Frank, Charles and Edward
    Batt, all of the Tonawandas, and Casper
    Batt of Cleveland. The funeral
    will be held tomorrow morning at 9
    o'clock at the chepel of Our Lady
    Help of Christians in Cheektowaga,
    founded by Mrs. Batt's father inlaw,
    Joseph Batt. Interment will be in
    the family lot adjoining the chapel
