    YOUNGSTOWN — James W. Strasburg, of Youngstown, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, NY. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on October 24, 1920, the son of the late Robert and Violet (Wendt) Strasburg.

    Mr. Strasburg graduated from Niagara Falls High School and had attended Cornell University. He served with the US ARMY Air Corps as a 1st Lt. during World War II and later served for 26 years with the Air Force Reserve, 914th Carrier Group as a navigator, before retiring in 1970. Mr. Strasburg was the sales manager for Wendt's Dairy from 1947 until 1965 and had owned and operated a dry-cleaners and Laundromat for several years. He then became the Vice President of the Food Service Division with Tops Markets, from 1965 to 1991, where he became a consultant for Tops, from 1991 until retiring in 1994.

    Mr. Strasburg is survived by his wife, Roberta M. (Wilson) Strasburg; one son, Stephen (Debra) Strasburg of Ann Arbor, MI; two daughters, Susan (Stephen) Hartman of Sioux Falls, SD and Cynthia (John) Koeneman of Barrington, IL; three-step daughters, Diane (Garry) Carr of Youngstown, NY, Denise (Dennis) Hoover of Ransomville, NY and Debra (Andy) Roberts of Niagara Falls, ON. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, fourteen step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Allen Strasburg, Alice (Arnold) Becken, Ruth (John) Schnadeeck.

    The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, on Sunday from 4-8 PM. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport Street, Youngstown, NY, with the Rev. Richard E. Blemaster officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to St. John Lutheran Church or to Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. Interment in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.

    BARRINGTON, IL — Dorothy Elizabeth (Plaster) Strasburg was born in Niagara Falls, NY to Paul and Ella (Werth) Plaster on March 26, 1920, and went to heaven on August 6, 2012. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls. On June 5, 1942, she married James Strasburg. They had three children: Suzy (Steve) Hartman (Sioux Falls, SD), Steve (Debbie) Strasburg (Ann Arbor, MI), and Cindy (John) Koeneman (Inverness, IL). Also blessing her life are eight grandchildren: Steph (Mark) Boyens, Sara (Nathan) Unruh, Andrew, James and Rebecca Strasburg; David (Stephanie), Jeffrey and Michael Koeneman; and six great-grandchildren: Gabrielle, Lincoln and Alexa Unruh; and Connor, Kate and Davis Boyens.

    Dot enjoyed life to the fullest and was an avid golfer. She loved her Savior and was always involved in her churches' Bible studies, choir and serving opportunities. She was a founding member of Escarpment Lutheran Church (Lewiston, NY), and a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran (Barrington, IL), Redeemer Lutheran (Peoria, IL), and Immanuel Lutheran (Palatine, IL).

    Lieutenant and Mrs. James W. Strasburg, whose marriage was
    solemnized June 5 at Trinity Lutheran church, South avenue, with
    the Rev. Dr. Maurice Kretzmann officiating. Mrs. Strassburg was
    the former Miss Dorothy Elizabeth Plaster, only daughter of Mr.
    and Mrs. Paul P. Plaster, of Pierce avenue. The Strasburgs now
    reside at Hattlesburg, Miss., where Lieutenant Strasburg is serving
    at Port Shelby.

    Funeral services were held today
    at the Lane Funeral Home
    for Robert W. Strasburg. 69, of
    7326 Buffalo Ave., who diid
    Saturday (Dec. 22, 1956) in Meyer
    Memorial Hospital, Buffalo.
    He was born in Sanborn and
    lived most of his life in the
    LaSalle section of this city. Prior
    to his retirement, he operated a
    grocery store and an automobile
    agency in LaSalle.
    He is survived by his wife,
    Violet; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold
    Becken, ths city,-and Mrs.. John
    Sciimadebeck, Lewiston; two sons,
    James Strasburgh, this city, and
    Allen Strasburg, Canandaigua; and

    Officiating at today's services

    Dies at 72

    Paul P. Plaster, 72, of 1841
    Pierce Ave., city comptroller
    at one time, died today (Feb.
    13, 1959) in Memorial Hospital
    after a short illness.
    Mr. Plaster was assistant
    comptroller from 1942 to 1956
    with the exception of the full,
    year of 1949 when he served as
    comptroller while the incumbent,
    Eugene T. Creagh, was
    city manager.
    Mr. Plaster was born in
    Lockport. He came to this city
    about 40 years ago. He worked
    for National Carbon Co. and
    Republic Carbon Co. until December
    1937 when he went to
    work for the city as an auditor.
    He was city employment
    manager from 1938 to 1940
    when he returned to the auditor
    post until the 1942 appointment
    as assistant comptroller.
    Mr. Creagh today praised
    Mr. Plaster as a "faithful worker."
    "We hated to lose him
    when he retired," Mr. Creagh
    said.
    Mr. Plaster was an elder
    and a board member of Trinity
    Lutheran Church for 25
    years. He also was a member
    of the Republican City Committee.
    He is survived by his wife,
    Mrs. Ella M. Plaster; a daughter,
    Mrs. James W. Strasburg,
    Town of Lewiston a brother,
    Otto Plaster, Lockport; a sis:
    ter, Mrs. Elizabeth Hellwig,
    Lockport, and three grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held
    at the Trinity L u t h e r an
    Church at 2 p.m. Monday.
    Friends may call at the Cobler
    Funeral Home Saturday and
    Sunday.
    Burial will be in Trinity
    Lutheran Cemetery, Lockport.

    after arriving at a motel in
    Sarasota, Fla. She left this
    city last Saturday for a visit
    in Florida.
    Mrs. Plaster was born July
    7, 1882, in Bergholtz. Her husband
    was P a u l P. Plaster,
    deputy c i t y controller, who
    died in February 1959.
    Mrs. Plaster was active in
    the Trinity Lutheran Church
    and its Guild and Missionary
    League.
    Surviving are a daughter,
    Mrs. J a m e s W. Strasburg,
    Lewiston; four sisters, Mrs.
    Julius Greinert and Mrs. Benjamin
    Schulz, both of North
    Tonawanda; Mrs. R u d o l p h
    Schultz, Sanborn, and Mrs.
    Frederick G. S c h u l t z , this
    city; and three grandchildren.
    Friends may call at Cobler's
    Funeral Home, after 2
    p.m. Saturday.
    The body w i l l be in the
    church from 11 a.m. Monday
    until the funeral.
    Rev. Paul J. Hartenberger
    will conduct the services. Interment
    will be in Trinity
    Lutheran Cemetery, Lockport.
