    LOCKPORT - Robert E. Bates
    of 463 Pine St., died Sunday in
    Lockport Memorial Hospital.
    He was bom April 17, 1914 in
    Lockport, son of the late E4rl and
    Josephine (Wallace) Bates. He was
    pre-deceased by his first wife, Nina
    Wilkins Bates, who died in 1965. He
    married Betty Woodroe Steel in
    1967.
    Mr. Bates was a general foreman
    for Harrison Radiator, Division of
    GMC, for 39 years, retiring in 1971.
    He was a member of the First Baptist
    Church of Lockport, the G-9
    Club, and the Olcott Yacht Club.
    Survivors include his wife, Betty
    (Steel) Bates; eight children, Mrs.
    William (Jolcne) Heitzenrater of
    South Carolina, Mrs. Robert (Donna)
    Keyser of Georgia, Robert L.
    (Karen) Bates of Newfane, Mrs.
    Bernard (Judy) Raysor of Newfane,
    Crosby E. (Barbara) Steel of Lockport,
    Mrs. Barry (Susan) Nelson of
    Albany, Mrs. Thomas (Debralyn)
    Muscato of Candor, N.Y., and Randolph
    P. Steel of Vermont; two sisters,
    Mrs. Harry (Bemice) Whalen of
    Lockport, Mrs. Loren (Marie) Kissinger
    of North Tonawanda; 17
    grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren,
    and several nieces

    Beginning tonight, friends may
    call at the Lange Funeral Home Inc.,
    186 East Ave., where the family will
    be present Monday (7-9) and Tuesday
    (2-4, 7-9). Funeral services will
    be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the
    First Baptist Church, Pine and Genesee
    Streets, with interment in Corwin
    Cemetery.
    Memoriaj gifts may be made to
    the First Baptist Church.

    26,' 1917, a daughter of Elwood
    and Eva Viehl Wilkins. She
    married Robert E. Bates at
    Akron, N.Y., in 1936. She was
    a graduate of Newfane Central
    School and is a former
    apple blossom queen here.

    Josephine H. Sahr, Dale Rd., died
    yesterday at Buffalo following an
    illness of several months.
    Mrs. Sahr was born at Lockport,
    a daughter of the late Mary O'-
    Hara and Robert Wallace. She was
    a member of Ridgewood Lutheran
    Church and the Newfane American
    Legion Auxiliary.
    Besides her husband, George G.
    Sahr, she is survived by one son
    and two daughters, Robert E.
    Bates, Newfane; Mrs. Harry Whalen,
    Lockport and Miss Marie Sahr,
    Buffalo; eight grandchildren; two
    brothers and one sister, William
    and Earl Wallace and Mrs. Webster
    Billings, all of Lockport.
    Services will be held at 2 p.m.
    Monday at the home and at 2:30
    at the Ridgewood Lutheran Church
    with the Rev. Edward Kolbe, pastor,
    officiating. Interment will be
    in Cold Spring Cemetery, Lockport
