Burkholder, Jr.; loving mother of Terry (Jack) Johnston, John (Diane) Burkholder III, James (Leslie) Burkholder and David (Nancy) Burkholder; grandmother of Ryan, Matthew (Vanessa), Jessica, Meagan (Jeff), Kelli, and Anastasia; daughter of the late Harvey and Bessie (nee Bailey) May; sister of Marjorie (late Robert) Scranton, Vivian (late Gordon) Tussing, Joan Beringer, David (Marjorie) May, and the late Bessie Schmidt, Madelyn Barry and Harvey May; also survived by two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Little Chapel of the Elms, in Elmlawn Memorial Park, 3939 Delaware Ave., Town of Tonawanda, where a Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM.     the engagement of their
    daughter, Mary Allison, to Technical
    Sergeant John W. Burkholder,
    Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs.
    J. W. Burkholder, Sr., of Falls
    Blvd. town of Tonawanda. Sgt.
    Bulkholder is at the present time
    stationed in Atlantic City after
    returning from overseas duty with
    the Air Force in the European
    Theater of War.

    In a candlelight ceremony held

    at Salem Evangelical Church last
    Saturday, April 14. at 7:30 p. m.
    Miss Mary Allison May. daughter
    of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey A.
    May of 350 Delaware street, became
    the bride of Technical Serjeant
    John W. Burkholder, Jr.
    son of Mr. and Mrs. John W.
    Burkholder of Erwin drive, Tonawanda.
    The double ring ceremony was
    performed by the Rev. Walter
    Hetzel. Miss Carrie Oswald, Salem
    organist, played traditional wedding
    marches, and Mrs. Grace
    Dumbrosky sang "Oh Promise
    Me" preceding the ceremony and
    "The Lord's Prayer" during the
    aervice.
    The bride chose a gown of
    white satin with the bodice fitted
    to a point at the waist, wrist
    length sleeves and a full skirting
    forming a long train. Her
    finger tip veil was caught with
    orange blossoms and she carried
    a shower bouquet of white roses
    and sweetpeas. Her only jewelry
    was a strand of crystal beads, a
    gift to her fromx her late grandmother.
    Mrs. Robert Scranton and Miss
    Bessie May, sisters o| the bride
    were matron and mSid-of-honor.
    They wore gowns of pink and
    blue net, with short puff sleeves
    land long full skirts, apliqued
    with flowers of the same material.
    They carried pink roses and blue
    sweetpeas and wore matching
    flowers in their hair.
    Robert Scranton was the
    groom's best man and the ushers
    were Harvey May and Hugh Higgins,
    all of Tonawanda.
    The bride's mother was attired
    in a two piece ensemble with
    printed blouse and navy skirt.
    Navy accessories completed her
    costume. Mrs. Burkholder, t h e
    groom's mother, wore a blue afternoon
    dress with navy accessories.
    Both wore corsages of
    spring flowers.
    Following the ceremony a wedding
    dinner was held in the
    Touraine Hotel, Buffalo, for the
    immediate families and a few intimate
    friends. About 100 guests
    attended a reception in the evening
    at the home of the bride's
    parents.
    Tech; Sgt. and Mrs. Burkholder
    left for Plattsburgh, N. Y., where
    the former is stationed, the bride
    wearing a gold colored suit with
    brown accessories, and a corsage
    of mixed flowers. She wore gold
    earings and a matching pin, the
    gift of the groom.
    Tech. Sgt. Burkholder spent

    eight months overseas with an 8th
    Air Force Reconnaissance Group.
    He is the holder of the Air Medal
    with four Oak Leaf Clusters.

    pital after a brief illness.
    A native of Tonawanda, he
    was a member of Salem United
    Church of Christ, and Local 369,
    Brotherhood of United Joiners
    and Carpenters of America, Sur-
    vivors include his wife, Bessie
    I (nee Bailey) May ; six
    daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marjor-
    ie) Scranton, Mrs. John (Mary)
    Burkholder, Mrs. Gordon (Vivi-
    ian) Tussing and Mrs. Richard
    (Joan) Remmele, all of Tona-
    wanda, Mrs. Robert (Madalyn)
    Barry of Milford, Conn., and
    Mrs. Kenefick (Bessie) Jedele of
    North Tonawanda; two sons,
    Harvey May Jr. of Woodbridge,
    Conn., and David May of Port
    St. Joe, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs.
    Ray Morningstar and Mrs. Hugh
    Higgins of Tonawanda; a broth-
    er, Frank May Jr. of Sanborn'
    23 grandchildren and 4 great-
    grandchildren.

    William Streets, Tonawanda,
    where services will be conduct-
    ed at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday by
    the Rev. Karl H. A. Rest. Burial
    in Elmlawn Cemetery.
