    JACKSONVILLE, NC —
    Jeffrey Scott Sankes, age 56, passed away suddenly in his sleep on December 1, 2012 at his home in Jacksonville, NC. Jeffrey was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on April 20, 1956 to Stanley V. and Jeannette (Wendt) Sankes. Jeffrey was predeceased by his father on February 27, 2002.
    Jeffrey graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1975 and joined the Marines Corps. As a Marine, he earned multiple awards to include Two Purple Hearts. He served in locations such as Vietnam, Okinawa, and Subic Bay, Philippines. Jeffrey served 16 years in the Marine Corps before being medically retired. After retirement, he went on to serve as a Commander of the Disabled American Veterans and Service Officer of the VFW. He will be sorely missed by the community.
    In addition to his mother, Jeanette, Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Senny; daughter, Karen (Trevor) Sankes-Ritland; son, Jason (Roxanne) Sankes; brothers, Gary (Heidi) Sankes, Grand Island, NY, Todd (Sharon) Sankes, Rochester, NY; grandchildren, Kailey and Trevor Ritland, Jenny and James Sankes; and nephews, Joshua, Matthew and Tyler Sankes.
    A military service was held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 9133, 1450 Piney Green Road, Jacksonville, NC 28546.

    PEKTN-A lovely wedding was
    Ktennlzed on Saturday afternoon
    at 5 o'clock m Trinity Lutheran
    church. Lockport, when Miss Jeanette
    Wendt, daughter of Mr. and
    Mrs. Walter Wendt of the Upper
    Mountain road, became the bride
    of Mr. Stanley Sankus, son of Mr.
    and Mrs. Vincent Sankus of Niagara
    Fans.
    The altar, in candlelight, was decorated
    with white chrysanthmums
    and fern. The Rev. Herman Meier
    performed the ceremony.
    Mra. Richard Robinson sang "Be
    cause" just before the bridal party
    entered the church to the strains of
    "Lohengrin's Wedding March" with
    Mr. Rheinholz presiding at the or-
    gan. The soloist sang "I Love You
    Truly" when the procession reached
    the altar.
    The bride, who was given in mar-
    riage by her father, wore a gown
    of white brocaded satin with long
    sleeves, high neckline and long
    train. Her fingertip illusion veil
    fell from a halo of pleated satin,
    caught on each side by a cluster of
    orange blossoms. She carried a
    shower bouquet of white roses and
    white sweet peas centered with gar-
    denias and tied with white satin
    ribbon.

    Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wendt will celebrate their
    50th wedding anniversary Wednesday at a family din-
    ner party at John's Flaming Hearth Restaurant.
    Mr. and Mrs. Wendt, formerly
    of Sanborn, now of
    Bradenten, Fla., were married
    Dec. 2, 1916 in Buffalo.
    Both Mr. and Mrs. Wendt
    were born in Loekport, and
    lived most of their life in this
    area before moving to Florida
    ten years ago. Mr. Wendt
    is a retired farmer.
    They have four children,
    Mrs. Lawrence (Alice) Wiseman,
    Niagara Falls; Mrs.
    Stanley (Jeanette) Sankes,
    also of Niagara Falls; Robert
    Wendt, North Tonawanda;
    and Mr. Roger Wendt, Sanborn.
    They also have 10
    grandchildren.
    They will return to Florida
    Sunday.
    The honored couple are life
    members of Trinity Lutheran
    Church, Loekport.
