Helen Elizabeth (Wells) Smith
August 21, 1925 - January 21, 2023

Helen E. (Wells) Smith, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2023.  She was 97.  She was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on August 21, 1925, a daughter of the late Warren and Ella (Russell) Wells.  She attended schools in Pennsylvania and then married Harry l. Smith, Sr. on October 31, 1944 and together they moved to Niagara Falls in 1955.  They remained happily married for 49 years until Mr. Smith’s passing in 1993.
     Helen enjoyed playing her piano, doing crossword puzzles, watching General Hospital and she loved her cat “Bambi” but her greatest joy was her time with her family.
     She is survived by three children, Harry L. (Brenda) Smith, Jr., Michael Smith and Helen (Joseph) Sortore, 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her loving husband in 1993 and four sons, Ronald Smith, Theodore Smith, Gerard Smith and Ross Smith.  She was also predeceased by 9 siblings: John Wells, Mary Killgallon, Nellie Wells, Mildred Canterbury, Katherine Dowse, Edith Walters, Ruth Rillstone, Cora Canterbury and Peter Wells.
     As per Mrs. Smith’s wishes there will be no visitation and burial will be private alongside her husband in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery in Lewiston. Donations may be made in Helen’s name to the Niagara County SPCA, 2100 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls, New York 14304
