Eichler, age 81, of North Tonawanda, unexpectedly, December 17, 2013 in DeGraff Memorial Hospital. He was a 1950 graduate of North Tonawanda High School, a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1950-1954. He was a volunteer with the Peace Corps and was stationed in Malaysia from 1969-1970. He worked for 38 years for the North Tonawanda Water Department, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Third Warders Club. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, euchre and woodworking. Ernest was a fixer and builder of everything for everyone and anyone. Beloved husband of Janet Eichler; dearest brother of Herb (Norma) Eichler and the late Charlotte (late Will) Hofert. Father of Stephanie (Barry) Capell, Steven (Sandy) Eichler, Susan (Joseph) Choboy, Gwen Eichler, Scott (Debbie) Neubauer, Kelly (Craig) Raines and Kristen (Pam Vogel) Neubauer. Grandfather of Kristen Choboy, Emily (JR) Fairchild, Austin and Amber Neubauer, Danielle Raines, Kurt Byers and Cameron Raines. Great-grandfather of Joseph Kostyrka, Fiona and Sophia Fairchild; uncle of many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., in North Tonawanda on Saturday from 2-6 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home beginning at 6:00 PM. Eicher, 69, of 777 East Robinson St., North Tonawanda, died Wednesday (Dec. 21, 1966) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital.Born in Germany, he had lived n North Tonawanda 39 years, formerly employed as a brass moulder (sp.) at American District Steam Co. Survived by his wife,Emily (Witt) Eichler; a daughter, Mrs. Wilbert Hoefert of Casalina (sp.), Ohio:two sons, Ernest G., and Herbert E. of North Tonawanda; a sister, Mrs. Marie Hollasch  of North Tonawanda, and nine grandchildren. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Wattengel Funeral Home Inc., 307 Oliver St., North Tonawanda, where services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Wife of the late Ernest Eichler, she is survived by one daughter. Mrs. Wilbert (Charlotte) Hoefert of Clyde. Ohio; two sons, Herbert (Norma) Eichler and Ernest(Gwen) Eichler, both of North Tonawanda and nine grandchildren. Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Wattengel Funeral Home.
