    B. Smart, 67, of 9023 Asher St.,
    died, Sunday (Jan. 19, 1969) in
    Medina Memorial Hospital after
    a lengthy illness.
    Mrs. Smart was born Jan.
    22, 1901 in Buffalo, the daughter
    of George S. and Ella Soper
    Benham.
    She was an active member
    of the Hartland Baptist Church.
    Survivors include her husband,
    Herbert; a son, Francis
    Brown of Wilson; a stepdaughter,
    Mrs. Elberta Price
    of Lockport; a sister, Mrs.
    Kenneth (Mildred) Hessel of
    Middleport; four grandchildren
    and a niece.
    Friends may call at the
    Wallace and Heath Funeral
    Home Inc., 38 State St., Middleport
    today from 7 to 9 p.m.
    and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and
    7 to 9 p.m.
    Funeral services will be held
    Wednesday in the funeral home
    at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harold
    Ball officiating. Burial will be
    in Hartland Central Cemetery

    5th, 1917. He is survived by his

    Springs. N. Y., four sisters, Mrs. John
    Walter and Miss Jennie Benham of
    Clifton, N. Y , Mrs. Webb of Syracuse,
    N. Y , Mrs. Huston of Mannsville. N.

    George Stewart Benham, aged 41,
    only son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward H.
    Benham of Clifton Springs, N. Y., was
    instantly killed on Wednesday evening,
    Sept. 5, near Olcott Beach, in an
    automobile accident. Mr. Benham
    was a resident of Newfane, N. Y., but
    had charge of a garage at Lockport,
    N. Y.
    He and two other men from the
    garage were testing out an eight cylinder
    car when the accident occurred.
    The road was new to Mr. Benham
    and he mistook the soldiers' monument
    for the end of the road, and applied
    his emergency brake, which resulted
    in the car skiding and hitting a telegrph
    pole. His companions jumped
    and escaped with minor injuries, but
    Mr. Benham was pinned underneath
    the car.
    Mr. Benham was a nurse by profession,
    having graduated from the
    Buffalo State hospital in 1895, and followed
    his profession until a few
    months ago when he went into the
    garage business.
    The remains were brought to the
    home of his parents in Clifton Springs
    where the funeral services were held
    on Saturday afternoon at 3:30, Rev.
    D. S. Wilson conducting the services.

    The deceased is survived by a wife
    and two daughters, Misses Hazel and
    Mildred Benham, of Newfane. N. Y.,
    his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Benham
    of Clifton Springs, N Y., four
    sisters, Mrs John M. Walters and Miss
    Jennie Benham of Clifton Springs,
    Mrs. L. Paul Webb of Syracuse and
    Mrs. G. Ralph Huested of Mannsville,
    N. Y.
    Mr. Benham was of a bright and
    cheerful disposition and will be sadly
    missed by a large circle of friends

    Note - George listed in 1910 census as widow living in Buffalo with "Stella Wilson" and her sister Grace Culver - this would indicate Stella Wilson was, in fact, Stella Tillotson since Stella Tillotson's sister was Grace Culver

    Mary Kavanaugh Benham, 92,
    widow of Edward H. Benham,
    died yesterday in her home on
    Broad St.
    Friends may call at Weld's
    funeral home, 26 Main S t Services
    will be held there Monday
    at 9 a. m. and at 9:30 in St. Felix
    Catholic church.
    Rev. Emmett Dougherty will
    officiate. Burial will be in Clifton
    Springs cemetery.
    Mrs. Benham had been in poor
    health for the past four years
    but up until her passing had retained
    all her faculties.
    She was the daughter of James
    and Rose Burns Kavanaugh and
    was born in Auburn, May 26,
    1656, the oldest of a family of
    six children, none of whom are
    now living.
    When she was two years old,
    the family moved to Phelps
    where Mrs. Benham lived until
    her marriage.
    On January 20, 1874. she was
    married to Edward H. Benham
    of Canandaigua by Rev. Patrick
    Lee at the Catholic rectory in
    Clifton Springs. Following their
    marriage, Mr. Benham engaged
    in farming for about one year
    and then went to Clifton Springs
    where she had since resided - a
    period of about 73 years. I
    Mrs. Benham had a wonderful
    'memory and could recall all the
    Interesting happenings in the history
    of Clifton Springs - the
    growth of the sanitarium was of
    great interest to her.
    She had a sympathetic interest
    in people which won for her a
    welcome in the homes of neighbors
    and friends and in any
    gathering. She was a great lover
    of children and young people
    and was called Grandma Benham
    by both young and old.
    Mrs. Benham was the mother
    of five children, George S., who
    died in 1017; Mrs. John N. (Vina)
    Walters, who died in 1936; and
    surviving, Mrs. Paul (Elizabeth;
    Webb of Tully; Miss Jennie M.
    Benham of Clifton Springs- and
    Mrs. George R. (Edna) Huested
    of Geneva, formerly of Mannsville.
    Also surviving are six grandchildren:
    Mrs. Herbert Smart of
    Gasport; Mrs, Kenneth Hessel of
    Middleport; Mrs. D. E. Steinbaught
    of Canandaigua; Mrs.
    Henry Hadley of Geneva; Charles
    Edward Webb of Tully and Mrs.
    Robert Langley and eight great
    grandchildren: Francis Brown of
    Gasport; Richard and Jolene
    Steinbaugh of Canandaigua; Vina
    Ann Hadley of Geneva; Paul,
    Mary and Faustina Webb of
    Tully and Virginia E. Hessell of
    Middleport.

    .-The 50th marriage anniversary
    of Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Benham
    was celebrated at their home in
    Clifton Springs on. Sunday. Mr. Benham
    and Mary Irene Kay an augh of
    Phelps were married on January 20,
    1874, by the Bev. P. Lee of the Catho-
    Uc church. Mrs. Benham is a sister of
    J. F. Kavanaugh and sister-in-law of
    Frank Spray, both of this village,
    the latter of whom was groomsman
    at the wedding, and who also attended
    the anniversary celebration, which
    consisted of a family dinner at noon,
    with covers laid for-eighteen. The
    gueaia comprised their daughters and
    huebanda and unmarried, daugh.
    ter also', a brother of Mr. Benham
    and his wife. During the afternoon
    and evening calls'were received from
    over a hundred friends and neighbors.
    A purse of gold was presented to Mr.'
    and Mrs. Benham by their children
    and families.
