    LEWISTON —
    Norma M. Brown, age 85, of Lewiston died on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston after a brief illness. Norma was born on May 12, 1927 in Wilson, the daughter of the late Herbert and Edith (McKie) Barkow and was a 1945 graduate of Niagara Falls High School.
    She retired in 1991 as a Senior Social Welfare Examiner from the Niagara County Department of Social Services after 21 years of service. Norma had previously taught at Trinity Lutheran Parochial School in Niagara Falls and at St. Peter Lutheran School in the Town of Cambria. After high school, Norma was employed for a time at the Carborundum Co. in Niagara Falls. Norma has lived in Lewiston since 1988. Previous to that she had lived in Ransomville, Niagara Falls, and Youngstown. She is a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Youngstown, the Youngstown and the Lewiston Senior Citizens, and the Lewiston Larks. She enjoyed her family, singing, reading, traveling, ceramics, and playing cards and taking part in the Senior's activities.
    She is survived by her children, Mark (Kathleen) Brown of Caledonia, NY, Susan Eastwood of Springfield, VA, David (Betty) Brown of Spanaway, WA, Debbie (Michael) Teague of O'Fallon, IL, and Elizabeth Brown of Lewiston; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her former husband, Norman W. Brown, in 1993.
    Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Saturday, February 2nd from 4-8 PM. (Please note, there will be no visitation on Sunday, February 3rd.) Funeral Services will be held on MONDAY, February 4th at 11:00 AM in St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport St., Youngstown, with the Rev. Richard Blemaster officiating. Burial will be private in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Cambria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.

    Her fingertip veil of Illusion
    was held In place by a delicate
    lace tiara edged with seed pearls.
    She carried a white prayer book
    with a white orchid.
    The bride is the daughter of Mr.
    and Mrs. Herbert E. Barkow. Ontario
    avenue, this city, and the
    bridegroom Is the son of Mr. and
    Mrs. Anthony W. Brown, Wellsville.
    The Rev. Paul J. Hartenberger.
    South avenue, and the Rev. Carl
    Oldach. North Ridge, were the officiating
    clergymen.
    The large wedding group presented
    a lovely picture before the altar,
    which was decorated with white
    gladioli and palms.
    The group included: Mrs. Dorell
    Lee, matron of honor; Mrs. Glenn
    Wingert, Mrs. Erwin Seabert, Miss
    Hazel Menzie, Mrs. James Flanagan,
    Miss Louise Feldmeyer and Miss
    Margaret Penman, bridesmaids, and
    Mr. Dorell Lee, best man, and the
    Messrs William Brown, Donald Mc-
    Kie, Edwin Robins, Erwin Seabert,
    James Flanagan and Donald Jones,
    ushers.
    Mrs. A. P. Caterlna provided the

    musical background for the ceremony
    with Miss Mary Pasch as soloist.
    A dinner for 50 guests was served
    at Lulgi's restaurant. The wedding
    reception was held at the bride's
    home with the bride and bridegroom,
    «and their parents, receiving
    the guests.
    After a wedding trip to Detroit.
    Mr. and Mrs. -Brown will reside at
    710 Augustus place.

    gave a reception a few evenings
    ago In honor of their daughter. Edith,
    who was recently married to Herbert
    F. Barkow. There, were forty-five
    guests present, who enjoyed a very
    pleasant evening and the host and
    hostess served a bountiful and tempting
    supper from seven until ten o'clock.
    The brlde was the recipient of many
    useful and beautiful gifts. The out-of-
    town guests were Mr. and Mrs. H.
    Lauze, of Buffalo, Mr, and Mrs. Barkow
    and family of Milwaukee Wis..

    P, ;Barkow of Church road, Cambria,
    took. place Saturday afternoon, July
    25th at the five o'clock at the Evan-
    gelical German parsonage, the home
    of the. groom. Rev. John P Barkow,
    father of the groom, officiating. The
    ceremony took place in the front parlor
    which was right with summer
    flowers and ferns in every convenient
    place.
    The bride wore a beautiful gown.
    of powder blue. Canton crepe with
    bead trimmings and a scarf and hat
    to match. She carried a . shower
    bouquet of bride roses. She was
    attended by Miss Althea Towne.
    Whose costume was yellow georgette
    with scarf and hat to match and she
    carried a bouquet of gladiolus. The
    groom was attended by Allison Somberger
    as best man. Later a reception
    was held at the Hotel Statler in
    Buffao for the bridal party. After
    dinner the newly wedded pair depart-
    ed on an extended trip, which will
    include Cleveland. Ohio, Washtngton,
    D. C , and New York City. On their
    r e t u r n they will be at home, at the
    residence of the brlde's parents. Mr.
    and Mrs. Thomas McKee of North
    Cambria.

    NORTH RIDGE, Feb. 18. - Rev
    John P. Barkow died at the Deaconess
    hospital. Buffalo, yesterday, ai the
    age of 61 years.
    Rev. Mr. Barkow was born April
    4. 1875. at Milwaukee, Wis., where he
    attended Lutheran Day school, later
    entering Concordia college to prepare
    for the ministry and graduated in
    1897 at The Seminary, St. Louis, Mo
    His first call was to Allardi, Term..
    Aug. 22, 1897. serving three and a halt
    years. In 1901 he took charge ai
    Wartburg, Tenn., for two years. In
    1903, he went to Mendon, N. Y., serving
    four years and the past 29 years
    was stationed at North Ridge.
    His wife died 13 years ago. He is
    survived by two sons and two daughters,
    Mrs. Fred Siebert, Ransomville.
    Edward Barkow, Niagara Falls.

    Malcolm Hlscock, Niagara Falls; two
    brothers, William F. and Henry Barkow,
    of Wisconsin.
    Prayer will be conducted by Rev
    Carl Dauphin on Thursday morning
    at 10:30 after which the body will
    lie In state In St. Peter's church.
    North Ridge, until 2 p. m.. when a
    public service will be conducted by
    Rev. Mr. Dauphin, assisted by Rev.
    Verwibe. of Buffalo, president of the
    Eastern District of Missouri Lutheran
    Synod, and Rev. P. Fretthold, of North
    Tonawanda, Rev. F. Swartz, of Ken-
    more, Rev. H. Meier, of Lockport, and
    Rev. W. Drews, of Buffalo.
    A guard of honor, consisting of
    the trustees of the church, will of-
    ficiate while the body lies in state.

    Mrs. Augusta Barkow, wife of Rev.
    John Barkow, the pastor of St. Peters
    Evangelical Lutheran Church of the
    Ridge, died at her home on Tuesday
    morning st six o'clock, following an Illness
    of nearly three months. She was
    born at Watertown, Wisconsin, fortyseven
    years ago, and was the mother of
    four children, all at whom are at home.

    Edward, Herbert, Frieda and Irna. The
    funeral was held from the. church on
    Friday at two o'clock, nearby brethren
    clergymen havig the service in charge.
    Burial was at the cemetery on the
    Ridge.
