    (Lewiston) - Dorothy C. Baker, age 91, formerly of Balmer Rd., in Ransomville, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 in Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness.Dorothy was born February 15, 1917 in the Town of Porter, the daughter of the late Frank and Jessie (Hamblin) Canfield and was a lifelong resident until 2005, when she moved to Lewiston. She was a graduate of Wilson High School and the Kelly Business School in Niagara Falls. On October 19, 1940 she married Howard “Red” L. Baker. Dorothy had worked as a secretary to loan officers in the Power City Trust Bank for six years and in 1942 she joined her husband to develop the Baker Farms business in Ransomville, and become the office manager.She was a lifelong active member of the Ransomville United Methodist Church. Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and embroidering.Her husband predeceased her on November 12, 1997. She is survived by her children, Ann (James) Samplinski of Grand Island, Erie County, NY, Katherine (J. Anthony) Collard of Youngstown, Paul (Sharon) Baker of Lewiston and Emily (Christopher) Lotz of Danville, CA; her grandchildren, Theresa Pitts, Richard (Michelle) and Stephen (Amy) Samplinski, Sarah (Kenneth) English, Robert Collard, Brett (Kara) Baker, Elizabeth and Nicole Baker, Jennifer (Andrew) Kush, Melissa Lotz and Shannon (Ryan) Khlar; her great-grandchildren, Dalton and Drew Pitts, Joseph, Amanda, Trevor, Grace, Mitchell and Savannah Samplinski and Tyler Baker; a brother, Douglas (Shirley) Canfield of Ransomville; and two sisters-in- law, Isabel Canfield and Grace Baker, both of Ransomville.     of one of the early fam-

    died Tuesday (June 29, 1971)
    in Ransomville General Hospital
    where she had been a
    patient for seven years..
    She was the widow of Elbert
    Baker who died in 1938. Mrs.
    Baker was born In England
    Dec. 4, 1873, and came to the
    United States at the age of 5.
    She was a charter member
    of the Ransomville WCTU. a
    former member of Porter
    Center Methodist Church, and
    a member of the Dickersonville
    United Methodist Church.
    She is survived by two
    daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Elberta)
    Stacy, of 3778 Ransom-
    ville Road, with whom she
    lived for 29 years, and Mrs..
    George (Mildred) Oderkirk of
    Bergen, and five sons, Lawrence,
    Courtland, A r t h u r,
    Frank, and Howard Baker,
    all of Ransomville, 145 grandchildren
    and 24 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be
    held at 2 p.m., Thursday at the
    Hardison Funeral Home, Ransomville,

    Monday at the home of Frank J.
    Canfield, 77, of Brayley Rd., who
    died Thursday (July 26, 1956) at
    Millard Filmore Hospital, Buffalo,
    after a short illness. .
    Mr. Canfield, a farmer and
    pioneer resident of the Town of
    Porter, was born Nov. 15, 1878, at
    Youngstown, the son of Frank H.
    and Sarah Canfield. He married
    the former Jessie Hamblin, Wilson,
    who survives him.
    In addition to his wife, he is
    survived by a daughter, Mrs. Howard
    Baker, and four sons, Donald,
    James, Carl' and Douglas. Two
    brothers, Witmer and David Canfield
    and 12 grandchildren, all of
    Ransomville, also survive.
    Services will be conducted by the
    Rev. Clarence F.French. Interment
    will be in North Ridge Cemetery.

    RANSOMVILLE. - Mrs. Sarah
    Witmer Canfleld, 92 years old, a
    lifelong resident of Niagara county,
    died at the home of her son, David
    Canfleld. on the Youngs town-Wilson
    road, yesterday afternoon, after a
    long Illness.
    Mrs. Canfleld. widow, of Frank H.
    Canfleld, was a native of the Town
    of Niagara and had lived in the
    Town of Porter for more than 60
    years. She was a member of the
    Porter Center Methodist church.
    Surviving her are three sons. Witmer,
    Frank and David Canfleld,. all
    of the Town of Porter, and 12 grandchildren.
    Funeral serevlces will be held at
    the home of her son, David, at 2:30
    p. m. tomorrow, with the Rev. John
    A. Mann, of the Ransomville Methodist
    church, officiating. Burial will
    be in Hoeraer cemetery.
