SANTA CLARA, CA —
Resident of Santa Clara, CA, John George passed away on May 31, 2013, at the age of 69. He was born in Niagara Falls to Joseph and Grace George. He graduated from LaSalle Senior High School in 1962, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Niagara University in 1967. Later that summer, he married Melanie Wozniak and they moved to Omaha, NE where John received his Juris Doctor degree from Creighton University in 1970.
A job offer as general counsel for Executive Fund Life Insurance Company brought John, Melanie and their young daughters to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1971. John opened his private legal practice in 1973 and continued to work as a trial lawyer and mediator, until his retirement in 2012. He also taught in the Stanford Law School Trial Advocacy program and in the Santa Clara University and West Valley College Paralegal programs.
John was a dedicated community servant who supported public education. In 1992 he created the Santa Clara Schools Foundation and served on its board for 19 years. In 2002 he incorporated the Santa Clara Teacher Housing Foundation, one of the first of its kind in the nation.
John is survived by Melanie, his wife of 45 years; daughters, Leslie (Chris) Kloes of Santa Clara, CA and Merrill (Brian) Turner of Santa Clara, CA; grandchildren, Caroline and Vincent Kloes; sister, Rosemary (David) Gleason of Greensboro, NC and brother, Joseph (Barbara) George of Niagara Falls.

John married WOZNIAK, Melanie in 1967. Melanie (daughter of WOZNIAK, Jacob and Martha) was born on 4 Mar 1946 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY; died on 14 May 2019 in Santa Clara, Santa Clara County, CA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Melanie George passed away on May 14, 2019 at the age of 73. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY to Jacob and Martha Wozniak. She graduated from La Salle Senior High School in 1964 and received her Associate of Arts degree from Niagara County Community College in 1967. Later that summer she married John George, also from Niagara Falls, and they moved to Omaha, NE where John attended law school. 

John, Melanie and their young daughters moved to the Bay Area in 1971. Melanie began working for Santa Clara Unified School District in 1978 as an instructional assistant at Kathryn Hughes Elementary School. She later worked at Scott Lane Elementary School in both mainstream and special education classrooms. When her daughters were older, she took a full-time position as the receptionist at the school district office. 

She retired in 2002 in order to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Melanie is survived by her daughters Leslie (Chris) Kloes of Santa Clara and Merrill (Brian) Turner of Capitola; grandchildren Caroline and Vincent Kloes of Santa Clara; sister-in-law Rosemary (David) Gleason of Greensboro, NC and brother-in-law Joseph (Barbara) George of Niagara Falls, NY.
