    NIAGARA FALLS — Michael S. Laufer, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July, 19, 2013, at his home.

    He was was born in North Tonawanda, NY, on April 26, 1958, the son of Carol L. (Nichols) Robins of Ocala, FL and the late Richard E. Laufer.

    Michael attended Niagara Falls High School. He was employed with the Goose's Roast for over 15 years and at the Seneca Niagara Casino for the past five years. He was an avid fisherman.

    In addition to his mother, he is survived by his grandmother, Jeanette Clark; his aunt, Lynne (Stanley) Scheiner; two sisters, Debra (Roger) Alvarez and Christine (Blake) Patterson; step- brother of Karrie (Richard) Tavano and Scott (Krista) Robins; his best friend, Ernest McDougald. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael was the step-son of the late James Robins, Sr. and step-brother of the late James Robins, Jr.

    Private funeral services where held at the wishes of his family. Arrangements were made through the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, Niagara Falls, NY.

    A 34 year-old Falls man, father of two children,was killed Wednesday night when his auto collided head-on with a tractor-trailer in Packard Road, east of Haseley Road.He was identified as Richard Laufer of 616 25thSt. and.was pronounced dead on arrival at Mount St.Mary's Hospital about a half hour after the crash at.8:10 p.m.In another accident investigated by State Police Wednesday night, James Carr, 37, of 3454 Creek Road,Youngstown, was Hospitalized after his car skidded and overturned.State police at the Lewiston substation said the fatal mishap occurred when Laufer,driving east on Packard Road, crossed over into the west bound lane and crashed head-on into the trailer truck.The driver of the truck,Marshall Criswell, 37, of 6549 Blqckchurch Rd., Lockport,was shaken up in the crash and suffered chest pains, but required no medical treatment, police said. Troopers said the tractor-trailer he was driving was rented from the Blue Diamond Truck Rental in Lockport .Niagara County Coroner Oscar H. Bell Jr. said today,he was ordering an autopsy made to determine the cause of Laufer's death.Troopers said Laufer was pinned inside the wreckage of his auto and they reported that it was a long and difficult task removing him. In the other mishap Wednesday night investigated by troopers, Mr. Carr was hospitalized when his auto overturned at the corner of Blairville Road and Creek Road,in the Town of Porter afte rit had skidded out of control. Carr was taken to Mount St. Mary's Hospital where he was listed in fair condition today with a fractured collarbone and fractured arm. Carr also suffered head lacerations and internal injuries'in the crash. Troopers said Carr's auto skidded on an icy spot as he attempted to turn onto Blairville Road from Creek Road. They said the car skidded into a ditch and overturned. Mr. Laufer was a native .of Buffalo and came to this city in 1940. He served a four year enlistment in the U.S. Navy, was a veteran of the Korean War, and was employed at the DiNoto Service Garage prior - to his employment for three years at Falls Dodge. For the last month he was employed as a mechanic at the Niagara Falls Air Force Base and was on his way home from work at the time of'the accident. Survivors include his wife, Carol Laufer; a son, Michael Laufer, and a daughter, Debra Laufer, both at home; his parents, Mrs. Margaret Laufer of- this city and Edward Laufer of Buffalo; a brother, Carrol Laufer of Wheatfield, and a. sister, Mrs. Leonard (June) Mendola of this city. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Rhoney Funeral Home by Rev. John B. Toay, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.  Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery.  The family will be present at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
