    Landsing St. Died unexpectedly
    Saturday in Auburn Memorial
    Hospital after a brief illness.
    Born in Auburn she had always
    resided here. She was a co-
    mmunicant of St. Alphonsus
    Church and a member of the
    Rosary and Altar Society.
    Surviving besides her husband
    are a sister, Mrs. Edward R.
    Ellis; two nieces, Mrs. Thomas
    Walsh and Mrs. Joseph Chayka,
    all of Auburn.
    Funeral services will be at
    9:15 a.m. at St. Alphonsus
    church Wednesday. Burial will
    be in Soule Cemetery. Calling
    hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m.
    and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the
    Langham Funeral Home. The
    Rosary and Altar society will
    conduct services at 8:30 p.m
    Tuesday at the funeral home.

    father of Police Chief Cheater J.
    Bills, died this morning in Auburn
    City Hospital after a brief
    illness.
    Mr. Bills was born In Auburn
    and resided in this city throughout
    bis life time. He was active
    In Democratic politics here and
    was aldermau of the Sixth Ward
    for two terms. During the administration
    of the late Mayor Mark I Koon
    Mn Bills was assistant city
    superintendent of streets.
    For many years, Mr. Bills was
    employed by the International
    Harvester Company. More recently
    he was assistant engineer at Auburn
    State Prison, retiring about
    two and a half years ago.
    Mr. Bills is survived by his wife,
    Mrs. Julia Hoey Bills; two daughters,
    Mrs. Joseph Wildner and
    Mrs. Edward Ellis, both of Auburn;
    one son, Police Chief Chester
    J. Bills of this city, two granddaughters,
    Beverly and Barbara
    Bills; four sisters, Mrs- Susan B.
    Hedges of Owasco Road, Mrs.
    Harry Pickard of Miami, Fla.,
    Mrs. Raymond Reynolds of
    Attica; Miss Grace Bills of Auburn;
    and by nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at
    3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the
    Langham Funeral Home, 91 East
    Genesee Street. Burial will be in
    Soule Cemetery. Friends have
    been invited to call at 91 East Genesee
    Street from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9
    on Sunday and Monday.

    Chief Chester J. Bills, died Thursday
    after an illness of several
    years.
    She was bom in Auburn, Sept.
    16. 1867, and had always resided
    here. She was the widow of
    Claude J. Bills. Mrs. Bills was a
    communicant off St. Alphonaus
    Church.
    Surviving besides her son are
    two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Wild-
    ner and Mrs. Edward Ellis, Auburn;
    two brothers, John and
    James Hoey, Auburn; two grandt
    children; two great-grandchildren;
    several nieces and nephews.
    Services will be held at 9:15 a.
    m. Monday at the Langham Funeral
    Home with further services
    at 9:30 a. m. In St. Alphonsus
    Church. Burial will be in Soule
    Cemetery.

    Chester S. Bills, one of the best
    known residents of the Sixth ward,
    died at his home in Lansing street
    Saturday evening as the result of an
    apoplectic stroke.
    Mr. Bills was the son the late
    William S. Bills and was a native of
    this county, having been born in Au-
    relius about 60 years ago. For 50
    years he was a resident of this city.
    He was always active in Democratic
    politics. He was thoroughly honest
    and reliable in his dealings with men
    and his popularity was deserved. For
    15 years he has been a guard on Au-
    burn prison and he was on his way
    home from duty when fatally
    stricken.
    When a mere boy he enlisted in

    Company A, Third Regiment, New
    York Light Artillery and served to
    "the close of the war.
    His surviving family is his mother,
    three brothers, William and Charles
    P. Bills of this city, and Milo Bills of
    Fleming, and one sister, Mrs. Ella
    Cougdon of this city, his widow and
    three sons, Claude, William and
    Frank Bills, and six daughters, Mrs.
    Elizabeth Crehan, Mrs. Josephine
    Plckard, Mrs. Susie Hedges, Misses
    Pearl. Laura and Grace Bills all of
    this city The funeral will be held from his
    late residence Wednesday afternoon
    at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in
    Soule cemetery.

    Mrs. Ann Hawelka Bills, 81. died
    yesterday afternoon at the home of
    her daughter. Mrs. Susan Hedges,
    385 Owasco Road. Mrs. Bills was
    born in Germany but lived 75 years
    in this country and 60 of them in the
    Sixtft Ward In this city.
    She is survived by three sons,
    Claude J., William S., and Frank E.
    Bills, all of Auburn; six daughters,
    Mrs. Elisabeth White of New York
    City, Mrs. Susan Hedges of Owasco,
    Mrs. Joseph E. Plckard, Mrs. Pearl
    Reynolds, Mrs. Laura Banks and
    Miss Grace Bills, all of Auburn; 13
    grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
    Services will be held Thursday afternoon
    at 3:30 o'clock' from the
    home of her daughter, Mrs. Susan
    Hedges. Rev. Malcolm MacPhail,
    pastor of the First Presbyterian
    Church officiating.
    Burial will be In. Soule Cemetery,

    The many friends of Mrs. Mary
    Hoey Smith will be grieved to hear
    of her death which occurred- at her
    home in Osborne Street early this
    morning. Mrs, Smith has been a resident
    of thls city for over 50 years.
    coming here from Ireland. She is

    survived by her husband William
    Smith and three daughters, Mrs.
    Claude Bills of this city, Mrs.
    Joseph Abar of Seneca Falls and
    Mrs. Philip Clarke of Albany, also
    five sons, Sergeant John Smith of
    Company H., Fifth Infantry of
    Panama, Rohert, James and John
    Hoey of this city, and William Hoey
    of Wyckoffs. The funeral will he
    held from the home of her daughter,
    Mrs. Claude Bills, 74 Lansing
    Street, Wednesday morning with
    services at St. Mary's Church at 9:30
    o'clock. Burial will be made in the
    family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

    William S. Bills, an old resident of this
    city, died last week after a lingering illness
    of about six weeks, in the 70th year
    of his age.
    Mr. Bills came to this city in 1850 and
    for a number of years conducted a marble
    and granite works. He was promi-
    nent in Democratic politics and at different
    times was elected to the offices of city
    assessor, alderman aud supervisor, taking
    great interest in city atfairs.
    He leaves t»eside a wife, three daughters,
    Mrs. E. J. Congdon, Mrs. Mary E.
    Austin of this city and Mrs L. A. Whiting
    of New York city, and four sons,
    Chester S., Wm.E , Chas. P and Milo E.
    Bills of this city.
