    Frank L. Balys, Sr., 76, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY, following a brief illness. Born on May 17, 1938 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Kutlina) Balys.

    Mr. Balys was a lifelong resident of the Town of Niagara, NY. Frank attended local schools and graduated from the former Bishop Duffy High School in 1956. On October 11, 1958, he married the former Eva L. Brinkman in Calvary Baptist Church. For 42 years, Mr. Balys was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he retired in 2002 as a maintenance supervisor. In his younger years, Frank coached his sons sports teams and supported his daughter's activities. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Balys looked forward to his annual trips to Orange Lake, FL. Frank's life was centered around his children and grandchildren.

    In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Balys is survived by four children, Frank L. (Cathy) Balys, Jr. of Holly, NY, Debra (James) Pfohl of Jacksonville, FL, Daniel (Russell) Balys of Chicago, IL and Joseph Balys of the Town of Niagara, NY; six grandchildren, Matthew (Tara), Ryan (Christie), Christopher, Erik, Maya and Joshua; one sister, Elizabeth 'Betty' Birmingham of Lewiston, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 8th at 10:00 a.m. which will be celebrated in St. Vincent de Paul Parish at the St. Leo's worship site, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Private entombment will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to a charity of one's choice.     dead by a physician.
    Born in this city March 13,
    1913, he was employed by the
    New York Central Railroad
    for 29 years as a diesel mechanic
    prior to going to work
    at Titanium Alloy Manufacturing
    where he was an operator
    for the last six years.
    He had been in ill health
    since November, but his
    death was unexpected.
    Mr. Balys was a member of
    Sacred Heart Church and its
    Holy Name Society.
    Survivors include his widow,
    Virginia; two daughters, Elizabeth
    A. Balys and Mrs. Donald
    (Sharon Beebe, both of
    this city; two sons, Frank A.
    Balys, this city, and Donald
    F. Jackson, Bloomington, Ind.,
    and four grandchildren.
    Services will be h e l d at
    8:30 a.m. Monday, at the
    Rhoney Funeral Home, followed
    by Requiem Mass at
    Sacred Heart Church at 9:15.
    Burial will be in the Gate
    of Heaven Cemetery.
    The family will be present
    from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7
    P.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral
    home. Members of Sacred
    Heart Church Holy Name Society
    will meet for recitation
    of the Rosary on Sunday at
    8 p.m.

    of this city, died today at her

    Ruth Louise Brinkman of Niagara Falls passed away peacefully Monday, September 28, 2009 at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center, Brockport, NY. She was born in Lake Ariel, PA on March 31, 1918 to the late George D. and Katie Eveline (Brown) Moon. She married Arthur H. Brinkman on May 16, 1936 and they moved to Niagara Falls in 1937. Arthur predeceased Ruth in 1992. Ruth was a homemaker and worked as a farm worker supervisor with her longtime neighbor and friend, Connie Pastore, at the Diller Raby Farm in Lewiston, NY. She enjoyed reading, bowling, hunting, fishing and traveling with family and friends. She liked to bake cookies and pies and make jam and jelly to give to her friends and family at holidays and special occasions. She was known as "Gram" at Ponderosa and at Niagara Wheatfield Credit Union. Ruth is survived by her children, Arthur (Dorothy) Brinkman, Jr. of The Woodlands, TX, George (Phil Kurr) Brinkman of Brockport, NY and Eva (Frank) Balys of Niagara Falls, NY; eight grandchildren, Frank (Cathy) Balys, Jr., Debra (Jim) Pfohl, Daniel (Ed Jelinek) Joseph Balys, Dorette (Chad) Crawford, Valina (David) Bartkowiak, Arthur Josie) Brinkman III, and Katrina L. Jordan; fourteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (late Max) Alt and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Eben Moon, Oliver Dudley Moon; and sisters Imogene Knight, La Villa Frisbie and Eva Fueglein. Friends may call Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Private services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Town of Lewiston. The family requests memorials may be made to Lakeside Health Systems Foundation, Lakeside Beikirch Care Center, 156 West Avenue, Brockport, NY 14420. The family would like to thank the staff at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center in Brockport for the wonderful care and love they gave Ruth during her stay there.
