    NIAGARA FALLS — Sterling Arthur Eichelberger, of Niagara Falls, died on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, following a brief illness. He was 92. Born in Lock Haven, PA, on May 25, 1918, he was the son of the late Lester Rexford and Mary (DeBall) Eichelberger. His family moved to Niagara Falls in 1921. He and Elizabeth E. (Schmitt) Eichelberger were married October 3, 1943, in Niagara Falls, NY, and made their home in the Town of Niagara. Mr. Eichelberger worked as conductor/brakeman on the New York Central Railroad, later Con Rail for 38 years, retiring in 1979. He became a member of Niagara Presbyterian Church in 1948 and was an ordained Elder, trustee, choir member and maintenance custodian. He was a member of Masonic Lodge F. &A.M. Lodge #132 since 1956, and an honorary member of Niagara Falls Chapter #582 OES. He was twice past President. Master of Ceremonies and now honorary member of the Retired Men's Service Club of the Niagara Frontier and sang in its chorus since 1979. He was past President and treasurer and past trip and tour director of Niagara Falls Chapter #283, AARP, in Niagara Falls. He also was a past director of the Lewiston Larks. He was program and trip director for the 50+ (Plus) Club Meeting at Niagara Presbyterian Church, director of Niagara Songsters, member and tour Director for St. James United Methodist Church Seniors, a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and volunteer for the Festival of Lights and its Auction. He served as Master of Niagara Masonic Lodge F. &A.M. 132 from 2003-2004. He received an award for outstanding contributions to Niagara County (1992), the Tops Good Neighbor Award in 1993, the Dedicated Service Award from the Masonic Order of New York State in 1994, and the Los Johnson Memorial Award in 1999. His hobbies were woodworking, Model railroading and traveling. Mr. Eichelberger is survived by a daughter, Carolyn L. Wogan (Ted) of Indiana; two sons, Gary L. (Jean) Eichelberger of Marcellus, NY and Dale S. Eichelberger (Linda) of Strykersville, NY; and a sister, Violet A. Snyder; six grandchildren, Karen Pitoniak, Gregory Eichelberger, Lloyd R. Cadwallader, Valerie Mace, Renea Lack and Angela Rose; great-grandchildren, Sara Mace, Dennis Mace, Matalin Mace, Sophie Cadwallader, David, Emily and Michael Pitoniak, Kaleigh and Cody Lauck. He was predeceased by his sister, Leola Zerbe. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, where Masonic services will be held Thursday at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday 11 AM in Niagara Presbyterian Church, Military and Lockport Roads, Town of Niagara. The interment will be in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston.     agara, Tobias W. Schmitt, 78,
    of 2525 Transit Road, Newfane,
    and formerly of Military Road,
    Town of Niagara, died today
    (Oct. 17,1968) in Meyer Memorial
    Hospital, Buffalo, after a
    lengthy illness.
    Mr. Schmitt owned a farm on
    Military Road until his retirement
    15 years ago, when he
    moved to Newfane.
    He is survived by a daughter,
    Mrs. Sterling Eichelberger of
    the Town of Niagara, and by a
    son, Raymond Schmitt of Apple
    ton. Also surviving are a brother,
    Daniel Schmitt of Lockport,
    and two sisters, Mrs. Evan
    (Emily) Zavitcz of Buffalo and

    Funeral seryices will be held
    at the Rhoney Funeral Home at
    a time to be announced. The
    Rev. William J. Devine, pastor
    of Niagara United Presbyterian
    Church, will officiate. Burial
    will be to North Ridge Cemetery.

    Mrs. Schmitt was also a

    husband, Tobias Schmitt; a

    Eichelberger, Town of Niagara;
    one son, R a y m o nd
    Schmitt, Appleton, and one
    brother, Oliver Bailey, East
    Aurora.
    She also is survived by
    nine grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be
    conducted at the Rhoney
    Fimeral Home at 12:30 p.m.
    Tuesday and at 1 p.m. at
    Niagara United Presbyterian
    Church by the Rev. William
    J. Devine.
    Burial will be in North
    Ridge Cemetery.
