    An active Republican and former
    Civil Defense official, Clarence
    E. Bistoff, 48. of 644 Willow
    was found dead in bed at his
    home about 9 p.m.. Friday (July
    27, 1962).
    Niagara County Coroner Dr.
    George H. Muscato, after an autopsy
    this morning at Lockport
    Memorial Hospital, ruled a heart
    attack as the cause of death.
    A niece, Mrs. David E. Strong
    of 86 Webb St., found the body.
    Long active in Republican politics,
    Mr. Bistoff was one time a
    Fifth Ward committeeman. He
    also founded and served as president
    of the Lock City Republican
    Club. He was among the prime
    movers for a city manager type
    of government here. The move
    was defeated in a public referendum
    in 1956.
    Mr. Bistoff, a native of Lockport,
    was deputy director of the
    Niagara County Civil Defense office
    from 1958 to 1959. Prior to
    that he was employed as produce
    manager at the Lockport Loblaw
    Inc. supermarket. During World
    War II he served as a foreman
    at the Curtiss - Wright Aircraft
    Co. at Buffalo.
    Earlier this year he was employed
    by the New York State
    Barge Canal as a lift bridge
    operator. He had been laid off
    about one month.
    Mr. Bistoff is survived by his
    wife, Jean Bistoff of Albion; four
    daughters, Mrs. William Roth of
    Brockport. Anne Bistoff, Eddy
    Sue and Christine, all of Albion;
    and a brother, Lewis Bistoff of
    Oquossoc, Maine.
    Friends may call, beginning at
    7 this evening at the Lange Funeral
    Home, 186 East Ave. where
    funeral services will be held
    Monday.

    Mrs. Johanna Bistoff. aged 70 years,
    who came to Lockport from Ulm.
    Wurtemberg, Germany, when only
    eight years of age. died at her late
    residence about 11 o'clock yesterday
    morning after a year's illness. De-

    ceased was the widow of Gustav Bis-
    toff. a Civil War veteran who passed
    away 21 years ago. She.was a member
    of the English Lutheran church,
    and also of tha Woman's Relief Corps
    of Sprout Post. No. 76, G. A. R. Nine
    children survive.

    The funeral of the late Mrs.

    Johanna Bistoff. who died Sunday
    morning at her late residence. No.
    82 Nlcholls street, was held this afternoon
    with services at her late home
    at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev.
    Francis T. Hoover. Mrs. R. J. Carson
    sang several appropriate selec
    tlons.
    The bearers were four grandsons.
    Fred and Roy Bistoff, Walter and
    Lester Bischer. and two nephews,
    Joseph Schuster and John Siedhoff.
    all of this city. The interment was
    at Cold Springs cemetery.
