    NIAGARA FALLS — John G. Guzdek, 66, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013. Born on November 20, 1946 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late John V. and Josephine (Monko) Guzdek and attended local schools. On January 27, 1966, he entered the US Army serving in the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60 and Sharpshooter Medal, and was honorably discharged on January 27, 1972. John was a former member of St. Charles Church, the UAW #774 and the American Legion Portage Post 1465. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and grandchildren, playing cards and darts and was an avid Sabres and Bills fan.

    He is survived by his children, John M. Guzdek of Niagara Falls, NY, Michael (Lindsey) Guzdek of Buffalo, NY, Sandra Guzdek of Eugene, OR, and Lori (Dominick) Terrana III of Las Vegas, NV; his grandchildren, Holly, Dominick, Samuel, Michael, Isabella and Jackson; his brother, James (fiance Dawn) Guzdek; his sisters, Joan (Andy) Donaghy, Theresa (Stefan) Kielbasa, Marie (Howard) O'Rourke, Susan (Ron) Burt and Karen (Mark) Santangelo; also many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Carol Ann (Fabiano) Guzdek and brother, Walter Guzdek.

    Friends may call Wednesday, October 16th from 5-8 PM at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC., 319- 24th St., cor. Welch Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin at 9:30 AM Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, 24th and Niagara Sts., with Rev. Jacek Mazur officiating. Burial with military honors following in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Donations in his memory may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094; Roswell Park, P.O. Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240-0631; or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

    Funeral services will be held Saturday,
    for Mrs. Mary Monko, 3012
    Monroe Ave., who died last night
    in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital after a
    long illness.
    A native of Czechoslovakia, she
    was a resident of this city for 42
    years and was the widow of Martin
    Monko.
    Mrs. Monko was a member of
    the Ladies Sodality and Society,
    St. Mary's Greek Catholic Church;
    the Polish Roman Catholic Union
    and St. Hedwig's Society. During
    World War II, she was employed at
    International Graphite and Electrode
    Co. for about 2-1/2 years.
    She is survived by'six daughters,
    Mrs. Sophie Beczkowski, Mrs.
    Helen Schram, Mrs. Margaret Polewicz,
    Mrs. Susan Kapelka and Mrs.
    Josephine Guzdek. all of this city,
    and Mrs. Anna Tomaka, Lackawanna.
    Two sons. John and Michael
    Monko; a brother, Andrew Prokop,
    Beaverdale, Pa.; 32 grandchildren
    and 19 great-grandchildren also survive.
    The services will be held at the
    Zajac Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m.
    Saturday and at St. Mary's Greek
    Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment
