    TOWN OF LOCKPORT - Vincent J. Licata, 53, of Day Road, and also of Port Orange, Fla., died Saturday (Jan. 30, 1988) at Ormond Beach Memorial Hospital, Florida. Born in Lockport, a son of the late Salvatore and Carmela (Giglia) Licata, he graduated from Lockport , High School in 1951 and was an avid sportsman, golfer and fisherman. "He was completely honest and candid," noted former Niagara County Sheriff Anthony J. Villella, a longtime friend of Licata. Villella noted that many small businesses in the area were started with the help of Licata. "He was a very generous man. I probably never met another man who knew more people than he did," Villella said. "He also had a great sense of humor." Licata was manager and treasurer of Licata Vending Machines, was former president of CVL Enterprises and Shelby Industrial Development, all of Lockport. He was a member at the Niagara County Golf Course and the Pelican Bay Golf Club in Daytona, Fla. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lockport. He also was a member of the An Jo Club, the Elks Club, the Knights of Columbus and served in the State National Guard., He is survived by his wife, Shirley R. (Marks) Licata; a daughter, Sandra Licata of Lockport; sons, Salvatore (Sal) and Anthony Licata, both of Lockport; a sister, Stella Rosetti of Lockport; brothers, Joseph S., Salvatore (Sam) W., Lawrence T., Carl J., Louis N. and Dominic S. Licata, all of Lockport, a grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Taylor and Reynolds Funeral Home, Niagara at Transit streets, Lockport, where a vigil service will be at 3:30 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Burial is at Cold Springs Cemetery, Lockport. Contributions to the American Diabetic Association of Western New York, 1807 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo, are acceptable as tribute.

    Shirley R. Licata, beloved mother and nani, entered into eternal rest July 15, 2019 in Elderwood at Lockport.  Born May 9, 1938 in Royalton she was the daughter of Richard G. and Alice L. (Giertz) Marcks.  Shirley was a beautician for many years and she served on the Board of Elections.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, making jewelry, and enjoyed traveling to Florida.  Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Vincent Licata on January 30, 1988.
    Shirley is survived by her children Sandra (Jeffrey) Cilibetro, Salvatore ‘Sal’ (April Elizabeth) Licata, and Anthony Licata; grandchildren Christopher Fredrick and Alyssa Licata; sister-in-law of Joseph Lydston and Louis Licata; also several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her two sisters Gladys Hill and Ruth Lydston.
    Relatives and friends may call Thursday, July 18th from 4-7 PM with services following at 7 PM all in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport.  Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery on Friday, July 19th at 11 AM.  Memorial donations to the Dale Association would be appreciated by the family.  Visit pruddenandkandt.com.

Carl J., Vincent J., Louis N., and Dominic S., all of Lockport; 20 grandch i l d r e n and three great-grandchildren.     LOCKPORT (UP) – One man was killed almost instantly and another was “critically” injured today when the automobile in which they were traveling knocked over a stop sign, struck an abutment, and careened 600 feet through a wooden fruit shed.

    MARKS - Funeral services for Richard G. Marks were held at Prudden Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street. Saturday afternoon. May 17, 1952 at two o'clock. The Reverend Ivan L. Lange officiated. Full military honors were accorded by B. Leo Dolau Post, No 410, American Legion and the following members acted as bearers: Frank McGonigle. James M. Meiklejohn, Herbert L Wilson, Anthony Haley, Willard Pencille, and Van S. Bennett Interment in Mt. Ridge Cemetery.

    GASPORT, April 15-Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Giertz Benson, who died of pneumonia Thursday in Olcott, where she had been employed for the past six months, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Bream funeral home, this place. The Rev. Alfred Lenzner, of Olcott, will officiate. Burial will be in Hartland Central cemetery.
    Mrs. Benson leaves four children, Helen, Kenneth, Nancy and Shirley; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Giertz; three sisters, Mrs. Alvert Kramy, Florence and Mildred Giertz; two brothers, Roy and Edward Jr., and two grandmothers, Mrs. Mary Coulson, of Gasport, and Mrs. Augusta Giertz, of Middleport.

    Middleport - George F. Marcks, 70, of 6350 Wolcottsville Rd. Wolcottsville, a retired machine operator at Harrison Radiator Division, General Motors Corp, died Monday Sept 14, at Medina Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for three days.
    Born Oct 5, 1893, in the Town of Royalton, he was the son of Frederick C. and Margaret Stock Marcks. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville.
    A son, Richard G. Marcks, died in 1952. Surviving are his wife Esther Pfohl Marcks, three daughters, Mrs Fred W. Hill, Medina, Mrs. Joseph Lydston, and Mrs Vincent Licata both of Lockport. a sister, Mrs. George Bronston, Medina, seven grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
    Friends may call today and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Wallace and Heath Funeral Home, State Street this community, and from 1-2 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church Wolcottsville.
    Services will be conducted at 2 PM at the church by Rev. Herman Ewald pastor. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

    Middleport- Mrs. Esther Marcks died unexpectedly at her home, 6350 Wolcottsville Rd, Wolcottsville. Born June 15th 1898, in the Town of Royalton, she was the daughter of Ferdinand and Mathilda Williams Pfohl. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville. Her husband, George F. Marcks died in 1964, and a son Richard died in 1952. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs Fred Hill of Medina, Mrs Joseph Lydston, and Mrs Joseph Licata both of Lockport, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.     GASPORT - Edward Giertz, 71, of Fruit Ave,, Medina, a former Gasport resident, died Sunday (June 19, 1966) in Medina Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Giertz, who was born in Royalton on Nov. 5, 1894, the son of Fred and Augusta Martin Giertz, has been an area farm worker all of his life. He retired nine years ago and had made his home in Medina since the death of his wife, Rose Coulson in 1960. Three daughters and two sons survive. They are Mrs. Mary Cramp of Olcott, Mrs. Florence Moden of Medina. Mrs. Mildred Stover, of Lockport, Roy Giertz of Lockport and Edward Giertz Jr. of Rochester. Also surviving are a brother, Frank Giertz of Lockport, a sister, Mrs. Emma Glena of Middleport, 37 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.     GASPORT - Services for Mrs. Rose Giertz, 63, of 38 Juniper St., Lockport, were conducted today at the Bream Funeral Home by the Rev. Otto Strothman, Middleport. Burial was in Hartland Central Cemetery. Mrs. Giertz, wife of Edward Giertz, died late Saturday (May 28, 1960) at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Walter Moden, Medina. She was born June 14, 1896, in the Town of Royalton, daughter of the late Robert and Mary Coulson. She was married to Mr. Giertz Jan. 6, 1915. The couple has lived in the Lockport area all their lives. In addition to Mrs. Moden and her husband, she is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Mary Kramp, Olcott, Mrs. Mildred Betsler, Lockport; two sons, Roy and Edrward J. Giertz,, Lockport; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Rands, Gasport, Mrs. Lydia Nevins, Ransomville, and Mrs. Mary Brucker, Middleport; and two brothers, George Coulson and William Coulson, both of this community. She was also the mother of the late Alice Marks. There are 26 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
