Obituary of Alan Brittin
Alan G. Brittin Jr. passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday November 21, 2018. Born in Pendleton on November 3, 1923, he was the son of the late Alan G. Sr. and Mary Murphy Brittin. Alan retired as a Superintendent of Operations from the Huntley Steam Station, Niagara Mohawk, in 1985 after working for 43 years. He attended the Ridgewood Bible Church and was a member of the Niagara Mohawk 25 year Club. He is predeceased by his wife, Eleanor (nee Bowerman) Brittin, who passed away May 2, 2006.
He provided an extremely solid foundation for the whole family. Alan was the father of Dale (Shirley) Brittin, Kent (Marcia) Brittin, Scott (Darlene) Brittin, Craig Brittin, Paul (Rebekah) Brittin and Ann (Jim) Hood. He is also survived by 16 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren. Alan was the brother of Dorothy (George) Knaisch and the late Gertrude Collins, Marian Brittin, Arthur Brittin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Saturday Nov. 24th and Sunday Nov. 25th 4-8 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday Nov. 26th at 11 AM at the Ridgewood Bible Church, 7073 Ridge Road, Lockport, NY 14094. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. The Rev. Harold W Mcllnay. pastor,
performed the ceremony and
the bride waa given in marriage by
her father. Following several numbers
played by Harland W. D. Smith,
organist. Mrs. Frederick Bowerman
of Toronto, aunt of the bride, sang
"Where'er You Walk." from "Semeie"
by Handel.
The bride wore a gown of off
white satin, fashioned with shadow
neckine of marquisette, outlined
with a bertha of Chantilly lace,
Basque bodice and bustle back. The
bouffant skirt fell to a long, grace-
ful train. Her finger-tip veil of
illusion with scalloped edging fell
from a tiara of orange blossoms
and she carried a Colonial bouquet
of white roses, backed with netting,
with white streamers knotted with
baby pompons.
ATTENDANTS' GOWNS
The bride was attended by the
bridegroom's sisters. Miss Gertrude
Brittin, maid of honor and the
aliases Dorothy and Marian Brittin.
bridesmaids. They wore Colonial
gowns of faille taffeta with shadow
necklines of marquisette and offshoulder
lace. The Basque bodices
Joined ballerina skirts draped in
three scallops over ruffled hoop
underskirt*. The maid of honor
wore blue and the bridesmaids, soft
pink and yellow. Gauntlets and
Mary, Queen o' Soots, bonnets
matched their gowns. They carried
Colonial bouquets of mixed flowers
with baby pom pins knotted in
streamers which contrasted their
gowns.
Roger L. Bowerman, brother of the
bride, was best man and ushers
were Robert Raymond or Buffalo
and Arthur Brittln, brother of the
bridegroom.
The bridegroom's mother wore e
dress of black crepe with pink and
black accessories and a corsage ot
pink roses. Mrs. Bowerman wore a
black faille suit with black acces
sories and a corsage of white gar
denies.
Mixed gladioli decorated the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bowerman,
where a reception to 150 guests was
held. A three-tiered wedding cake
encircled with gladioli and the
bridal party bouquets centered the
refreshment table. Mrs. Roger
Bowerman presided at the punch
bowl and Miss Shirley Bowerman,
at the urns.
The couple left for a motor trip,
the bride wearing a toast colored
gabardine suit with brown accessories
and a corsage of red roses and
white carnations. They win make
their home at 20 Vine St.
Out-of-town wedding guests were
from Mlddleport. Buffalo, Eggertsville,
Niagara Falls, Toronto, St
Catharines, Hamilton, Dunnvlile,
Ont., and Arkansas.
The bride is a graduate of Lockport
High School and attended
Brockport State Teachers College.
The bridegroom also was graduated
from Lockport High School.
PRE-NUPTIAL ENTERTAINMENTS
Pre-Nuptial events included a variety
shower given by Mrs. Roger
Bowerman and Mrs. Ernest Bowerman
at the letter's home; a surprise
variety shower given by Mrs. Roland
White at her home in Mlddleport;
a variety shower given by Mrs. Gordon
Freatman and Miss Shirley
Bowerman, followed by a luncheon
at the home of Mrs, Carl Schrader.
A picnic shower held by office
employes of Slmonds Saw and Steel
Company; a dinner and bathroom
shower given by Mrs, Wesley An
drews at her home; a dinner at the
Park Hotel, given by the
Dorothy Oliver, Catherine Hoenlg
Mary Bailey. Gertrude and Marian
Britttn; a rehearsal dinner given by
the bridegroom's parents at their
home.
