    August 5, 2014 Constance "Connie" Lemke Nicholson Anonymous The Tonawanda News The Tonawanda News Tue Aug 05, 2014, 10:47 AM EDT SAN DIMAS, CA - On July 26, 2014, Constance "Connie" Lemke Nicholson (nee Constance Lee Lemke) died in San Dimas, CA, after a long illness. Connie was a native of North Tonawanda, NY and lived half her life on Fredericka Street, working for many years in City Hall while being a faithful member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. A loving mother and wife, she is survived by husband, Thomas (of Diamond Bar, CA); son, Todd (of Arlington, VA); and daughter, Cindy (of Azusa, CA); a brother, Keith Lemke (of North Tonawanda); a sister, Beverly Brantly (of Rochester, NY), and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda on August 9.     A r t h u r P. Lemke, 59, of 310 Fredericka St., North
    Tonawanda, who devoted much of 18 of his last 23
    year to city government, died early today after an ap-
    parent heart seizure at his home.
    Mayor Durkee ordered the flag
    in front of the North Tonawanda
    City Hall lowered to half-mast
    in tribute to Mr. Lemke, who
    was elected to the Common
    Council nine times.
    He was stricken with the fatal
    attack shortly before 3 a.m. to-
    d a y F i r e m e n administered oxy-
    gen, but he was dead on arrival
    DeGraff Memorial Hospital.
    His death came less than two
    weeks before he wa to have
    been honored at a testimonial
    dinner May 21 by the North Tona-
    wanda Republican City Com-
    mittee.
    Since 1940, when he was first
    elected to the Common Council,
    he devoted most of his time and
    effort to the North Tonawanda
    political scene. A republican, he
    twice served two-year terms as
    Common Council president.
    He retired from politics lat
    Dec. 31 at the conclusion of his
    ninth term as alderman from the
    Fourth Ward.
    Long a proponent of the city
    manager plan of municipal gov-
    erment, Mr. Lemke was an out-
    standing legislator.
    A native of North Tonawanda,
    he was born in the Fourth Ward
    and attended local schools. He
    had been employed at the Buffalo
    Pumps Division of Buffalo
    Forge, North Tonawanda, for
    the past 45 years.
    While on the council, he hed-
    ed every committee at one time
    or another and was respected
    by all who served with him.
    He was a member of the Ton-
    wandas Chamber of Commerce,
    DeGraff M e m o r i a l Hospital
    Board of Trustees, Gratwick
    Hose Company, the Firemen's
    Benevolent Association and St.
    Mark Lutheran Church and
    president of the church Christian
    stewardship committee.
    He is survived by his wife.
    Ruth; two sons, Keith and Den-
    nis both of North Tonawanda
    three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth
    (Beverly) May of Rochester,
    N.Y.; Mrs. Thomas (Constance)
    Nicholsan and Miss Carol
    Lemke. both of North Tonawan-
    da, and four grandchildren. He
    i s a l s o survived by two sisters,
    Mrs. James Mahoney of Lock
    port and Mrs. Richard Schieman
    of Niagara Falls and a brother,
    Fred Lemke, peace justice in
    the Town of Wheatfield.
    Funeral service will be at 2
    p.m. Wedesday in St. Mark Lu-
    theran Church. Until 11 a.m.
    Wednesday, his body will be at
    Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241
    Oliver St., North Tonawanda.
    Burial will be in St. Mark Lu-
    theran Cemetery.

    74, of Pearl St., died in De-
    Graff Memorial Hospital today
    (Sept. 23, 1959). He was
    born in Prompton, Pa., March
    21, 1885, the son of Franklin
    and Anna Arthur Bodie.
    Mr. Bodie had lived here the
    last 37 years. He was employed
    by the New Yoork Central
    Railroad for 27 years, retiring
    two years ago. A lay preacher,
    Mr. Bodie conducted religious
    services for many years at the
    Odd Fellows hall, Niagara
    County Jail and the Niagara
    County Infirmary. He was a
    member of First Baptist
    Church, North Tonawanda, and
    of the OBA Sunday School
    class there.
    Survivors include a daughter,
    Mrs. Arthur Lemke, North
    Tonawanda; two sons, Elwin
    Bodie, this village, and Kenneth
    Bodie, Niagara Falls; a
    sister, Mrs. Clistia Stanton
    Faulkner, of De Land, Fla.;
    six grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren
    and several
    nieces and nephews.
    Services will be held at the
    Pike and Jones funeral home
    at 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will
    be in North Ridge Cemetery.

    Mrs. Bodie was born In Prompton.
    Pa., March 18, 1882, the
    daughter of the late George and
    Ida Starbuck. Mrs. Starbock died
    Jan. 13, 1956 at the Ransomvtlle
    General Hospital after a brief illness.
    Mrs. Bodie was a member of
    the First Baptist Church, North
    Tonawanda. She and Mr. Bodie
    had helped with the religious servi-
    es at the Niagara County Infirmary,
    the IOOF Home at Lockport
    and the Niagara County Jail
    for the past 25 years.
    Besides her husband, she Is survived
    by a daughter, Mrs. Arthur
    Lamke, North Tonawanda; two
    sons, Elwin C. Bodie, Sanborn and
    Kenneth Bodie. Niagara Falls: a
    sister, Mrs. Walter Kirchner. Clifton.
    New Jersey; six grandchildren,
    one , great-grandchild and
    several nieces and nephews.

    SANBORN. Oct. 17 - Mr. and
    Mrs. Erwin Bodie, Sanborn, celebrated
    their 50th wedding anniversary
    at an open house at the home
    of their d a u g h t e r , Mrs. Arthur
    Lcmke, 310 Frcdericka St., North
    Tonawanda.
    Mr. and Mrs. Bodie, were married
    at Herrick Center, Pa., Oct.
    14, 1903. The Rev. Grant Stanton,
    brother-in-law of the bridegroom,
    performed the ceremony.
    Mrs. Bodie was the former Mabel
    Stanbuck. They made their home at
    Prompton, Pa.
    Their children are Mrs. Arthur
    Lemke, North Tonawanda; Elwin
    Bodie, Sanborn and Kenneth Bodie,
    Niagara Falls. They have six grandchildren.
    They moved to Sanborn in 1922.
    They now make their home at 48
    Pearl St.
    The lunch was s e r v e d buffet
    style. The table was attractively
    decorated with a battenburg lace
    cloth which is 100 years old. The
    centerpiece was a three-tier wedding
    cake decorated in gold and white.
    Seventy - five guests were served.
    Mr. and Mrs. Bodie received many
    lovely gifts.
