Burpee William Marshall- 87

During the Korean War Burt served as a navigation radar and sonar operator in the Naval Air Force. He once spotted and followed an enemy submarine for several hours by plane before being relieved by another aircraft. After his service Burt returned home to Niagara Falls where he met the love of his life, Joan Delorenzo, who he married as soon as she was of age. The two were married for over 60 years. One of his favorite moments in life was on a vacation in Africa where in their hotel room she said “I feel like a queen.” Burt loved telling that story. They had two children, Jeffrey Marshall and Loretta Marshall. Unfortunately both Jeff and Joan predeceased Burt; Jeffrey in 2006 and Joan in 2014. He lived out the remainder of his days with his daughter Loretta Brink in Columbus Ohio where the two played at least one game of rummy nearly every single day.

Burt was a man of great faith. As was his whole family. He continued in that faith until his dying day knowing in his heart after closing his eyes, he’d open them once again and see all of his loved ones, most notably his wife of 60 years.

Burt was also a man who spoke his mind. If you’d done something wrong, he’d let you know quickly and directly. His entire family including his 5 grandsons and 5 great grandchildren benefited from those direct moral lessons. He was a man of style (his friends called him ‘The Dandy”), adventure, photography, great margaritas, friendship and love. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Joan R. Marshall, a life-long resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully September 21, 2014, after a brief illness. Born 77 years ago to the late Fred A. and Louise (Fioritta) DeLorenzo, she is survived by her husband of 57 years, Burpee W. Marshall; a daughter, Loretta; and five grandsons. She was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey. Survivors also include her step-mother, Charlotte DeLorenzo, and a sister, Carol A. (Gregg) Ross of Lewiston; brother, Paul (Kim) DeLorenzo and sister, Linda (Donald) Gray of Niagara Falls. She was predeceased by a brother, Nicholas (Nadyne) DeLorenzo.

She was an active member of Jehovah's Witnesses for over 50 years. She enjoyed gourmet cooking and decorating her home and she and her husband traveled throughout the world. Her greatest joy came from studying the Bible and comforting her neighbors by means of it in her public ministry.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 4, from 12:30 to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2099 River Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Flowers graciously declined. Remembrances in her name may be made to Jehovah's Witnesses, c/o 8405 Pershing Avenue, Niagara Falls NY 14304. Arrangements were made by Williamson Funeral Home.

FRED A. DELORENZO

Fred A. DeLorenzo, 86, a retired mason contractor, died Friday (Aug. 2, 1996) in his home on Pershing Avenue after a brief illness.

Mr. DeLorenzo was a self-employed mason contractor whose brick and stone work can be seen throughout the city. He retired in 1972.

He was born in Niagara Falls, where he lived his entire life.

Mr. DeLorenzo was ordained a minister of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1959 and served as an elder in the Niagara Falls LaSalle Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses until his death.

He was an avid reader and gardener. Mr. DeLorenzo enjoyed watercolor and oil painting, stone sculpture and carpentry. He was a sportsman until recent years.

"Our father will be remembered by those who knew him as a caring and giving person," one of his five children said on behalf of the family. "In particular, he counted it a joy and privilege to help others appreciate and understand the Bible, a work he was able to actively engage in until his death."

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, the former Charlotte M. Dillon; two sons, Nicholas R. and Paul; three daughters, Carol A. Ross of Lewiston, Joan Marshall and Linda Gray; two brothers, Vincent of Lewiston and Claude of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Flora Wade; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the LaSalle Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2099 River Road.

Nicholas DeLorenzo, 83. of 848 20th St., died today (May 2, 1961) in Ransomville General Hospital. A native of Pentone, Italy,he lived here for 60 years. He was a retired stonemason and was a member of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers International Union of America.Survivors include six sons,Theodore, Fred, Fausto and Vincent DeLorenzo, all of this city, Samuel DeLorenzo, Niagara Falls, Ont., and 1st Lt.Claude De Lorenzo, stationed with the U. S. Air Force in Albuquerque, N. M.; two daughters, Mrs. G. Thomas (Laura) Virtuoso, and Mrs.Herschel (Flora) Wade, both of Niagara Falls; one sister,Mrs. Nick Pavone, Chicago Heights, Ill.; 18 grandchildren,two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will beheld at 8:45 a.m., Friday at the M. J. Coluccl Funeral Chapel and at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
