CLARA MAE MARTIN

Of Newfane, NY, Passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, in Kenmore Mercy Hospital.  She was born in the family homestead in Sanborn, NY, on January 1, 1933, the daughter of the late Lionel and Viola [Sanborn] Read.
Mrs. Martin graduated from Wilson High School in 1951 and served with the  US Navy Reserves from 1951-1953.
She was a charter member of the Sanborn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a life member of the Western New York Ladies Auxiliary, the Rebecca Lodge in Sanborn, the American Legion Post 969 Auxiliary, where her mother paid her dues for the legion from the time she was a baby, until she was married.
Mrs. Martin bowled in several different leagues for over 20 years and loved taking care of her flower garden and doing crafts.
She was the wife of the late Donald F. "Pete" Martin, who died in October of 2014, they were married on October 27, 1951, in the former Sanborn United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Martin is survived by four daughters Pamela Clara (late Peter) Treichler, Elizabeth Violia (late Dennis) Lawler, Elena Ruth Martin and Wendy Ann (Randy Wysocki) Martin, granddaughters; Miranda Clara  Josker and Jennifer Nicole Wysocki, also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the sister of the late Lionel Leslie and William Clinton Read.
Her family will be present on  Saturday from 1-3 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, with funeral services and Military Honors to follow at 3:00 PM.
Memorials may be made in her name to Niagara Hospice.

READ - Viola Sanborn Read of 2860 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn, Thursday (Oct. 21, 1971) in Newfane Intercommunity Hospital. Wife of the late Lionel J. Read; mother of Lionel Leslie Read and Mrs. Donald (Clara) Martin, both of Sanborn, sister of Lee R. Sanborn, M.D., of Gowanda, N. Y.; also survived by six grandchildren;
Services will be held at the Pike & Jones Funeral Home Inc., 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, Sunday at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. Floyd Gotjen of the Sanborn United Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Mt. View Cemetery. The family will be present from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. If preferred, memorials may be made to the Sanborn United Methodist Church. Members of the Sanborn American Legion, Post 969, Ladies Auxiliary will conduct memorial services Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

SANBORN FUNERAL SUNDAY
Highly Respected Sanborn Resident to Be Buried in Pekin.
SANBORN, March 5.—The funeral of Clinton F . Sanborn, 63 years old, who died Thursday at the family home here, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the local M. E. church. Private services will be held at the residence and interment will be in Mount View ceme-tery, Pekin. Mr. Sanborn is survived by his wife Clara E.. three daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Franks. Mrs. Helen Hermanson, Mrs. Viola Read, all of Sanborn, two sons. Dean S., of Sanborn, and Dr. Lee R.. of Angola. Also ten grandchildren and one brother James L. of Ossinike, Mich. H e was a member of Forest Lodge No. 202, I. O. O. F . , of Sanborn, of Niagara Lodge N o . 375. F. & A. M, of Lockport. He was born at Sanborn on May 8. 1864. in the same house in which he passed away. He was engaged in various business enterprises and also bought and shipped hay , fruit and vegetables. He had resided in Sanborn all his life. Was a member of the Republican County Committee and a Justico ot the Peace, which office he held for 12 years. He was a well known and highly respected citizen. A member of The First M. E . Church and always actively interested in all community affairs. He will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends and neighbors.
