Arthur W. Butler, 63 a retired
City of Tonawanda patrolman,
died in DeGraff Memorial Hos-
pital, North Tonawanda, yester-
day morning shortly after suf-
fering a heart attack in his
home, 12 Simson St., Tonawan-
da.
A heart condition forced his
retirement from the police department
in 1948 after nearly 18
years of service. He was custodian
of the Iroquois Gas Corp.
premises at 60 Broad St., Tonawanda,
since quitting police
work.
Born in North Tonawanda and
educated in the Tonawanda public
schools, Mr. Butler served
with the 108th Infantry Regiment,
the federalized 74th Infantry,
during World War I.
He was a charter member of
the Tonawanda Police Club and
a member of Tonawanda Post
264, American Legion, the First
Presbyterian Church of Tona-
wanda.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Margret Clench; a
daughter, Miss Fay Ellen Butler;
two stepdaughters, Miss Helen
Brettle and Mrs. Margret Brun-
ing of Tonawanda; a son, Levant
Butler o Detroit, a stepson,
Allen Brettle; a sister, Mrs. Hat-
tie Hahn and a brother, George
Butler of Tonawanda.
The Rev. Donald V. Robert,
minister of First Presbyterian
Church, will conduct funeral
services at 2 Tuesday afternoonn
in the Hilliard Funeral Home,,
147 Delaware St.,, Tonawanda.
Burial will be in Rest Have
Cemetery, Town of Pendleton,
Niagara County.
