    Charles H. Briggs, 71, RD 5,
    Tannery Rd., died Wednesday at
    his home after an illness of six
    months.
    Mr. Briggs, who had lived in
    Rome past 25 years, retired in
    1957 from Rome Division of Revere.
    He was born in Boonville on
    Feb. 12, 1894, son of Benjamin
    and Fannie Bates Briggs, and attended
    schools there. He married
    Pearl Carpenter on June 10, 1920,
    in Boonville. She died several
    years ago.
    Wed Second Time
    On Aug. 20, 1954, at Star Lake,
    he married Mary Maude Come.
    She died Nov. 21, 1963.
    Mr. Briggs, who had lived at
    Saranac Lake and Brushton prior
    to coming to Rome, was an Army
    veteran of World War I and was
    of the Methodist faith.
    He leaves two daughters, Mrs.
    William (Helen) Lehr, Watertown,
    and Mrs. Dorothy Reed, Boonville;
    a sister, Mrs. Erwin (Flora)
    Johnson, and a brother, Irving L.
    Briggs, both of Rome, and two
    grandchildren.
    Services Saturday
    Funeral services will be at 11
    Saturday at the Martin J. Nunn
    Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin
    E. Macumber^ pastor of Wes-
    leyan Methodist Church, officiat-
    ing, and interment in Evergreen
    Cemetery, Stokes.
    Friends may call at the funeral
    home from 7 to 9 tonight and
    Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

    Mnrr Charles Briggs, 24, 115 W. Liberty
    street, passed, away at 9:15 p. m.
    Wednesday at the Rome Hospital. She
    had been in poor health for the past
    two months.
    Pearl E. Carpenter, a daughter of
    Mr. and Mrs. Horace Carpenter of
    Denley, was born there 24 years ago.
    At Boonville in 1921 she was married
    to Mr. Briggs. They moved to Rome
    about five months ago.
    Besides her husband and parents,
    two daughters survive: Helen Louise
    and Dorothy Irene Briggs; also three
    brothers and one sister, Howard and
    Chester Carpenter of Denley, Perry
    Carpenter of Ballston Spa, and Mrs.
    Ernest Selmon of "Denley.
    Mrs, Briggs had been a devout member
    of the Presbyterian Church of
    Boonville. The remains were taken
    to Boonville today Where funeral services
    will be held and interment made.

    Boonville, May 24.-Benjamin A.
    Briggs, aged 80, passed away Friday
    afternoon at his home on the
    Hnwklnavllle road. Although Mr.
    Briggs had been In falling health
    for some time, the end came very
    suddenly.
    Mr. Briggs was born In Boonville
    Sept 22,1849. the son of Solomon
    and Olive Meeker Briggs. He married
    Fannie Bates of Clayville. who
    passed away several years ago.
    Mr. Briggs was well known In
    this vicinity, having lived In Boonville
    practically all his life.
    Surviving are three daughters,
    Mrs. Albert C. Andrews, Boonville;
    Mrs. L. G. Den slow. Alder
    Creek, and Mrs. Erwin L. Johnson
    of Rome, and two sons, Charles
    and Irving L. Briggs, Port Leyden;
    also one sister, Mrs. William
    Locker, Port Leyden.

    Benjamin married BATES, Fannie M about 1884. Fannie was born in Dec 1867 in New York; died before 1930. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Monday evening, July 28, at 8 o'
    clock at the home of Rev. G. H. H.
    Davis, occurred the marriage of Miss
    Flora Dell Briggs, daughter of Mr.
    and Mrs. Benjamin Briggs of Boon-
    ville and Erwin Lymon Johnson, son
    of Mr. and Mrs. gilbert Johnson of
    Port Leyden. they were attended by
    Mr. and Mrs. Chris E Backman, the
    ??
    The bride looked very charming in a
    white georgette crepe dress and wore
    a white picture hat and carried a bou-
    quet of white roses and maiden hair
    ferns. the bridesmaid wore a hand-
    some dress of pink crepe georgette
    crepe with a large picture hat and al-
    so carried a bouquet of pink and white
    roses. The parlor was beautifully
    decorated with ferns and roses. After
    congratulations a reception was held
    at the home of the groom's parents;
    served by Mrs. Fred Mahaney of Port
    Layden and Mrs. Amos Martin of
    Chatuaugay, the latter being a sister
    of the groom. the presents were
    many and beautiful including ??
    and useful gifts. the bride's gift to
    the maid was a gold brooch set with
    gems. The groom's gift to the best
    man was a gold pocket knife. Amid
    a shower of rice and confetti the hap-
    py couple left for a short wedding
    trip.
