    Dolores Dowd passed away peacefully on Easter in Eastern Niagara Hospital surrounded by her family after a short illness. Born May 3, 1925 in Lockport, daughter of the late Corrine (Blazing) and George Zapp. She attended Lockport schools and was employed by Harrison Radiator. In 1946 she married Nicholas C. Dowd, together they raised five loving children.

    They owned and operated Dowd Dry Cleaning and Ruth's Antiques for many years. Dolores was an accomplished seamstress and she was later employed by Peter's Dry Cleaners. She was known for her seamstress skills and served many with her trade. Many of her creations were donated to veterans, hospitals and nursing homes. Dolores was fun loving, selfless and always up for an adventure.

    She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting new places. She once signed her family up for a local road rally around Lockport and won the award for most people in a car with 14 people. Dolores was a lifelong communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by her family.

    She is predeceased by her brother, Roy G. Zapp; her husband, Nicholas C. Dowd and her son, Nicholas (Darlene) G. Dowd. She is survived by her children, Stephen J. Dowd, Diane (Stanley) Harzewski, Christine (Todd) Schwartz, Jeanine(Mark) Grosso; her grandchildren, Stephen and Matthew Dowd, Gregory, William, Carrie and Benjamin Harzewski, Kiki, Gretchen Schwartz, Kathleen and Nicholas Dowd and Gianni Grosso; along with eight great grandchildren.

    Visitation to be held Friday, April 11, at Ross Funeral Home Gaul Chapel 263 East Ave. in Lockport from 4 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 12 at St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut St. in Lockport at 10 AM with burial fallowing.
