    Mary "Annabel" Brutsman, 92, of Horseshoe Bend and Garden Valley, Idaho, quietly passed into heaven at the home of a granddaughter, Robin, on April 29, 2011.

    Annabel was born Aug. 26, 1918 in Caldwell, Idaho, to parents Isadore John Jr. and Emma LeGrand. She married Clayton Carl Brutsman June 27, 1935. She graduated Emmett High School in 1936 and they raised six children together.

    Her passions in life were organic vegetable gardening and growing beautiful flowers, as well as the Power of the Lord.

    She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; a sister; and two husbands, Carl Brutsman and Howard Bates.

    She is survived by six children, Galen and Sharlyn, Gordon and Lillian, Gary, Neil, Carla and Gary Helmick and Paula and James Potter; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

    Graveside service will be held at the Emmett Cemetery on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 2 p.m. with potluck to follow at the Wild Rose Park. Friends are asked to bring a side dish.

    The family wants to thank Treasure Valley Hospice for their outstanding service, kindness and loving support.

    The death of Charles Lee Brutsman,
    73, occurred at 12:30 p. m.,
    Saturday. April 5. at his home in Russell
    street. He had been ill for several
    months with hardening of the
    arteries and aenemia. He was born
    in Tioupsburg Sept. 8. 1867, the son
    of the late Nicholas and Eunice Cobb
    Brutsman. He lived there until he
    settled in Howard. He married Miss
    Alice Conklin of Howard Dec. 25,
    1888. Their golden wedding was celebrated
    with a family gathering in
    1938.
    For many years he was a hardworking,
    thrifty and successful farmer
    of Burt Hill and by diligence, industry
    and honesty, he accumulated
    a comfortable competence besides
    rearing a fine family-and educating
    them.
    Their children having reached maturity
    and set up for themselves, they
    moved from the farm to this village
    in 1917, but being a tireless worker
    he worked as delivery man or the
    Lent grocery for years, besides keeping
    several cows and selling the milk
    locally. He retired from the grocery
    work after 13 years and gave his
    time to his small dairy and property
    interests. The body was removed to
    the Robbins funeral home and prepared
    for burial.
    He is survived by his wife, and the
    following children: Leroy Brutsman
    of Cunningham Creek; Howard;
    Clarence L. Brutsman of Canaseraga;
    Raymond L. Brutsman, a school
    principal in Olean; Mrs. Milton Richardson
    of Canisteo; 16 grandchildren
    and 4 great grandchildren.
    The funeral was held from the
    home at 2:30 Tuesday. Rev. E. M.
    VanNostrand, pastor of the Baptist
    church officiated. There were many
    floral tributes. Burial was made in
    Hillside cemetery. The escorts were:
    D. L. Carter, A. D. Travis, Leroy C.
    Lent, Herbert Jansen, Claude Wambold,
    Herbert Smith.
    Attending the funeral from away
    were: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Horton,
    Mabel McDaniels, Genevieve Coleman,
    Mrs. Martin King of Hornell;

    Residents of this section were
    grieved to hear of the passing of
    Mrs. Alice Brutsman on Thursday,
    Dec. 7, at the Oaks Nursing Home
    in Canisteo. She has been a life
    long resident of this vicinity and is
    well known and highly respected
    by all who knew her. She was the
    daughter of Alvin and Rosett.a
    Conklin. She was married to C.
    Lee Brutsman on Dec. 25, 1888.
    They started housekeeping ,and
    farming on the place now owned
    by Clinton Clark and were very
    successful farmers. In later years
    they moved with their family .to
    Canisteo where they lived until Mr.
    Brutsman died In 1942. Since then
    Mrs. Brutsman has lived around
    with iher 'children until in June of
    1950 when she fell and broke her
    hip.She was in the St. James hospital
    for iweeks, and then was removed
    to the Oakes Nursing Home
    in Canisteo where she died. She
    is survived by Leroy Brutsman of
    Cunningham Creek, Prof. Raymond
    Brutsman of Olean, Clarence Brutsma
    nof Cameron, and Edith Rich
    ardson of Canisteo. Also by 20
    grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
    She was 80 years old at the time
    of her death. Funeral services were
    held on Monday, Dec. 11, at 3
    o'clock at the home of her daughter,
    Mrs. Edith Richardson and
    family Of 44 Russell St., Canisteo.
    with Rev. Geo. Upham of the First
    Baptist church officiating. Burial
    was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
    The survivors have the sympathy
    of the community.

    The 50th anniversary of the wedding
    of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Brutsman,
    well known residents of Canisteo,
    will be observed Sunday with a family
    gathering and Christmas dinner
    at their home.
    Mr. and Mrs. Brutsman will be at
    home to their friends during the
    hours from 2:30 to 5 p. m., and 7 to
    10 in the evening.
