    at DeGraff Memorial
    Hospital. Mrs. Newman was
    a life long resident of North
    Tonawanda and member of
    St. Paul Lutheran Church.
    She was the wife of the late
    Louis G. Newman.
    Mrs. Newman is survived
    by two sons, Wilfred G.
    (Margaret) Newman of
    Kenmore and Clarence
    (Vivian) Newman of Ft.
    Lauderdale, Fla.; five
    grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren;
    a brother,
    Gustave Sahr of North
    Tonawanda.
    The family will receive
    friends at the Fretthold
    Funeral Home, Inc., 1241
    Oliver St., at Ward Rd.,
    North Tonawanda Thursday
    and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
    Services will be held at the
    funeral home Saturday at
    1:30 p.m., the Rev. Enno A.
    Schmoock will officiate.
    Interment in White Chapel
    Memorial Park.. If so
    desired, memorials may be
    made to St. Paul Lutheran
    Church.

    Frederick Sahr, 87, Served with Distinction with Union Army Cavalry
    NORTH TONAWANDA. Dec. 1.- Frederick Sahr, 87 years old, the last Civil War veteran in the Tonawandas, died Sunday at his home, Niagara Falls boulevard and Sweeney street, North Tonawanda. Born in Germany, Mr. Sahr left that country when three days old, coming to America with his parents and locating in the Martinsville section of North Tonawanda, residing there until his death. During the Civil War he served with distinction in the Union Army as a cavalryman. He was an organizer of W. B. Scott post, G. A. R. Ten years after the war Mr. Sahr began boating on the Erie Canal. He was the owner of a fleet of three boats, which he operated until the close of 1915. He then retired. He is survived by his wife, Ida; three sons, Frederick, Jr., Gustav and Christian Sahr; four daughters, Mrs. Louis Newman, Mrs. Otto Neumann and Miss Eleanor Sahr, all of the Tonawandas, and Mrs. Edward Rosseau,. Barker,. N. Y.; seven grandchildren, three brothers, Martin and Philip Sahr of the Tonawandas and Louis Sahr, New York City, and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Peters, North Tonawanda, and Mrs. Charles Sattelberg, Detroit, Mich. The funeral will be.held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence and a half-hour later at St. Paul's church, North Tonawanda, the Rev. F. A. Hinners officiating.

    Friedrich married RICHERT, Ida Ulricke Rosalia on 1 May 1870 in Niagara County, NY. Ida (daughter of RICHERT, Christopher and HAECKER, Ulricke Maria) was born on 18 Dec 1849 in Penkum, Prussia; died on 28 May 1931 in North Tonawanda, Niagara County, NY. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Mrs. Ida R. Sahr, 81 years old,
    widow of Frederick Sahr.Civil War
    veteran, who died last summer, pass
    ed away at her home, on the Niagara
    Falls boulevard, this city,
    this morning. Born in Germany,
    she came to America at the age
    of one and with her parents came
    to North Tonawanda immediately
    to reside, continuing her residence
    here until death.
    Mrs. Sahr was a member of St.
    Paul's church and a pioneer resi-
    dent of the Martinsville section
    of North Tonawanda, having seen
    the suburb rise from a small log
    house settlement to a thriving res-
    idential and industrial center.
    Mrs. Sahr is survived by four
    daughters, Mrs. Edward Rosseau,
    Barker; Miss Eleanor Sahr, Mrs.
    Louis Newman and Mrs. Otto Neumann;
    three sons, Frederick, Gustave
    and Christopher, all of North
    Tonawanda; seven grandchildren,
    four great grandchildren and . a
    brother, Aaron Richert, Stillwater,
    Minn.
    The funeral will be held Sunday
    afternoon at 2 o'clock at the
    residence and half an hour later.

    Paul's church. Rev. F. A. Hinner;
    will officiate and burial will be
    in St. Paul's cemetery.
