BATAVIA-Albert Buckman
74, of the Dodgson Road, died
Thursday (April 30, 1964) after
suffering a heart attack at his
home.
Born in Darien Dec. 15, 1889,
Mr. Buckman was the son of
Fred and Augusta Wanneke
Buckman. He had resided on
the Dodgson Road 53 years
and had been engaged in
farming. He was a member of
the Holy Name of Mary Church
in East Pembroke and North
Darien Grange 405. On Feb. 23
1909, he married Theresa Sta-
pell, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons,
Charles of Batavia, Harold of
Stafford and Norman of Hone-
oye Falls; a daughter, Mrs.
Norene Ayraut of Alden; a
brother, George of Corfu; three
sisters, Mrs.. Augusta Hardie
and Mrs. Ellen Seltz of Buf-
falo and Mrs. Edna Schell of
Michigan; four grandchildren,
and a great-grandchild.

service arrangements.

Corfu, Dec. 23.-Mrs. Augusta
Buckman, widow of Fred Buckman,
took her own life by hanging in the
kitchen of her home, 2 1/4 miles west of
this village, at an early hour this
morning. Her body was found by her
16-year-old son Frank. her oldest boy at
home when he went down stairs from
his bed room at 6:30 o'clock. Coroner
Hummel was notified and he
viewed the body and will render a verdict
of suicide.
Mrs. Buckman had taken a small
rope, fastened it to the upper part of
a door frame and then had wound the
rope around her neck and sank to
the floor on her knees. In this position
her body was found. When her
son made the discovery he ran across
the road to C. D. Silliman's and secured
help and the body was taken
down.
The only cause assigned for the
rash act is that Mrs. Buckman was
despondent. She left no note, not
did she terf any of her people that she
contemplated suicide. Two months
ago her son Bert, IV years old and the
mainstay of the family, departed from
home, and his mother was left with
live boys and two girls, the oldest of
whom was 16 years. Two days ago she
sold her 96-acre farm to N. A. Brown
and received a small payment down.
She. was to have gone to Batavia today
to get the deed and the search to
complete the transfer.
Mrs. Buckman was 50 years old and
Is survived by 12 children, all of whom
reside in this vicinity. They are
George, Fred, Bert. Frank. Mabel.
Clarence, Ella, Edna, Elsie and
Augusta Buckman and Mrs. John
Schell and Mrs. Arthur Sumner.
