    Smethport - Paul J. Hann, 78, of Smethport, passed away Friday (November 24, 2023) at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY.
     
    He was born August 7, 1945 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of Paul F. and Helen Doloris (Weber) Hann. On September 5, 1980, in Niagara Falls, NY, he married Isabelle P. Pecoraro, who died Feb. 15, 2020.
     
    Paul was a graduate of Trott Vocational School in Niagara Falls and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1967.
     
    He was employed at the GM Powertrain Plant of Tonawanda, NY until his retirement.
     
    Paul was an avid sportsman and was the vice president of the Norwich Township Sportsman’s Club.
     
    He is survived by:
    Two daughters: Tracy L. Pecoraro of Smethport and Donna L. (Charles) Broadway of Cape Girardeau, MS
    Two grandchildren: Autumn Abernathy and Gavin Seabaugh
    Three sisters: Gail (Tom) Ballard of California, Donna Hatton of Niagara on the Lake, Canada, and Linda (Chester) Sliwowski of Niagara Falls, NY
    One brother: Bruce (Paula) Hann of Grand Island, NY
    And several nieces and nephews
     
    In addition to his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in death by a brother in law, Ian Hatton in 2020.
     
    At Paul’s request, there will be no visitation or services.

    Helen "Dolores" (nee Webber) Hann, 97, passed from this life on Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Elderwood at Grand Island. Born on October 14, 1918 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Helen (Collins) Webber.

    Mrs. Hann graduated from the former St. Mary's High School and later earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Buffalo State College. Helen met Paul Floyd Hann, whom she married on April 6, 1940. He was the love of her life and her rock for almost 50 years, until he passed away on September 24, 1984.

    Raising a family of five, with tender love and care, included hours of reading aloud to them, as well as her excellent cooking and baking skills. When all of her children went to school, she started a very successful home-based business making custom draperies for JC Penny. As her family began to leave home, Helen returned to teaching at Our Lady of the Rosary School and St. Teresa School. For several years, Helen and Paul enjoyed traveling together across country by motor home and spent many happy family times at their summer cabin in Smethport, PA. Even later in life, she traveled with her family to Hawaii, England, Scotland, Wales and the Canadian Rockies. Helen always cherished her visits with family and will be dearly missed by everyone.

    Mrs. Hann is survived by five children, Gail (Tom) Ballard of Gardnerville, NV, Donna (Ian) Deters Hatton of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, Paul (Belle) Hann of Smethport, PA, Bruce (Paula) Hann of Grand Island, NY and Linda (Chester) Sliwowski of Niagara Falls, NY; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Helen is also survived by three siblings, Vera (late Duncan) Neilson and (late Floyd) Austin of Niagara Falls, NY, Joseph (late Florence) Webber of Niagara Falls, NY and James (Verna) Webber of North Tonawanda NY, as well as many nieces and nephew

    The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Elderwood at Grand Island NY for five years of kind and dedicated care.

    Visitation and funeral services will be held privately with her family at OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY (716-297-9007), with Rev. William Allegretto officiating the service. Private graveside services will take place in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.     RANSOMVILLE - A retired
    farmer, Allen J. Benedict, 84, died
    this morning at his home in the
    Randall Road, Town of Wilson.
    Born in Ellicottville, Mr. Benedict
    moved to the Town of Royalton
    when he was 11 years of age, com-
    ing to the Town of Wilson 45 years
    ago where he operated a farm. He
    retired about 10 years ago.
    Surviving are three daughters.

    Mary Benedict, at home, Mrs. Dayton
    Hardison. Ransomville. and
    Mrs. Charles Goetz, Niagara Falls;
    two sons. Roy Benedict, at home;
    George Benedict. Niagara Falls and

    Cemetery.

    RANSOMVILLE. Nov. 22-Funeral
    services for Mrs. Frances E. Benedict,
    74, who died at her home in
    the Randall road Sunday afternoon,
    will be held Wednesday afternoon
    at the home at 2 o'clock. Burial
    will be made in North Ridge cemetery.
    Mrs. Benedict had been ill for
    several weeks as the result of a
    stroke.
    Born in Gasport, Mrs. Benedict
    had made her home most of her
    life in the vicinity of Ransomvllle.
    She was a member of the Methodist
    church and was active in the Alberta
    Mothers' club.
    Besides her husband, Allen J.
    Benedict, she is survived by four
    daughters, Mrs. Dayton Hardeson,
    Ransomville; Mrs. David Hann and
    Mrs. Paul Goetz,, Niagara Falls;
    and Mary Benedict, Ransomvllle;
    three sons, George, Niagara Falls;
    Carl, North Ridge, and Roy, Ransom
    ville; two sisters, Mrs. George
    Dunn, Buffalo; Mrs. John Squires,
    Rochester, and a brother, Fred
    Austin, Gasport.
