INGRAHAM - Howard D. Poehler, 69, of Ingraham passed away at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, with his family near, after a long struggle with sickness.

He was born Nov. 26, 1941, in Clay County to Amos Poehler and Alice (Schwengel) Poehler. He married Glenda Miller on Aug. 30, 1964, at St. Paul's Blue Point Lutheran Church, near Altamont.

Howard served in the Illinois National Guard and was a board member of Clay Electric Coop for 30 years. His memberships included St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Bible Grove, Bible Grove Sportsman's Club and Louisville American Legion. Howard also was a volunteer on North Clay Fire Department of Bible Grove.

Howard "Sodbuster" was a lifelong farmer who also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting and spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to cherish memories of the life of Howard are wife, Glenda; children, Angie Stanfield, Theresa Miller and Marty Poehler; two grandsons; brother, Duane Poehler; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Harold and Cora (Dammermann) Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Richard Birch; and sister-in-law, Janice Poehler.

Funeral services were held at Neal Funeral Home, Louisville.

Burial in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice, Mattoon, or St. Thomas School, Newton.

Alice Marie Poehler, 94, of Effingham died at 2:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, in Effingham.

Mrs. Poehler was born March 11, 1916, in Effingham County, the daughter of George and Louise (Budde) Schwengel. She married Amos Poehler Feb. 10, 1934, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1974.

She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.

Survivors include her sons, Duane Poehler and Howard (Glenda) Poehler; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nephews, Ralph (Peggy) Schwengel and Clyde Schwengel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Wanda Poehler Birch; son-in-law, Richard Birch; daughter-in-law, Janice Poehler; brother, Amos Schwengel; sister-in-law, Mary Schwengel; and nephew's wife, Lois Schwengel.

Funeral services were held at Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, with burial in St. Paul's Cemetery on the Clay/Effingham County line.

Louise Schwengel

Effingham- Mrs. George (Louise) Budde) Schwengel, 96, of Effingham died at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday July 29, 1987, at Lakeland Healthcare Center, Effingham.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Louisville, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home, Dieterich, and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be to St. John's Cemetery Fund or the donor's choice.

Mrs. Schwengel was born Aug. 10, 1890, in Effingham county the daughter of Henry and Anna (Siemon) Budde. She married George Schwengel in 1911. He died in 1977.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a charter member of St. John's Ladies Aid Society.

Surviving are her daughter, Alice Poehler of Louisville; daughter-in-law, Mary Schwengel of Dieterich; five grand-children; and 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, three brothers, two sisters and one great-grandchild.
