    FRANK J. BUFFONE

    Frank J. Buffone, 85 of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Tuesday November 18, 2008 in Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo, NY.

    Born February 26, 1923 in Beyer, PA, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Clara (S'Dao) Buffone.

    Frank moved to Niagara Falls as a young child with his family. He attended 17th and 24th Street Elementary, Gaskill Jr, Trott Vocational High, graduated from Niagara Falls High School and went on to college.

    Frank entered the military service at age 19. He served in the United States Army during World War II with the 291st Company ā€˜Cā€™ of the first Army. He fought and was wounded while establishing a beachhead during the invasion of France on July 11, 1944. Frank was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, a Unit Citation, European Theater Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

    On January 8, 1951, he married June D. (Julian) Buffone in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Buffone predeceased him November 11, 2004.

    Together, they moved to Los Angeles, CA and later Phoenix, AZ, returning to Niagara Falls in late 1952.

    Frank worked as a real estate broker for the former Ferrusi Real Estate Co. and Parisi Real Estate Co. in Niagara Falls. He later went on to work as a self employed tax consultant until his retirement.

    Mr. Buffone was a sports enthusiast who loved baseball and football. He was one of the founding members and past president of the LaSalle Zone 6 Little League in Niagara Falls. He was also an accomplished musician and passionate Frank Sinatra fan. In his early years, he played saxophone and clarinet for several local bands and orchestras alongside renowned guitarist Tommy Tedesco.

    In his leisure time, Frank also enjoyed gardening and tending to his tomato plants. He loved his family especially his grandchildren.

    Mr. Buffone is survived by his six children, Karen Buffone of Niagara Falls, NY, Michael (Darlene) Buffone of Ashburn, VA, Patrick Buffone of Niagara Falls, NY, Philip (Nancy) Buffone of the Town of Niagara, NY, Nancy (Charles) Pitarresi of Niagara Falls, NY and Douglas Buffone of Cheektowaga, NY; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Buffone of Niagara Falls, NY, Margaret (Nash) Ognibene of the Town of Niagara, NY, his brother-in-law Paul Julian of Sanborn, NY; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

    He was also predeceased by two sisters, Isabel Hoffman, Mary Ann (Joseph of Niagara Falls, NY) Figurilli; and one brother, Joseph (Rosalie of Niagara Falls, NY) Buffone.

    Friends may call on Sunday from 2-5 and 7-9 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where funeral services will begin on Monday, November 24th at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 North Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY.

    Interment will be held in Holy Trinity Cemetery Lewiston, NY with Military Honors.

    June D. Buffone, a onetime local big-band singer and retired medical receptionist, died Thursday in Inter-Community Memorial Hospital, Newfane, after a long illness. She was 73.

    Mrs. Buffone was born June Julian in Niagara Falls and attended local schools.

    As a young woman, she sang with local bands. Her family said she always enjoyed singing and also liked classic musicals and other old movies.

    Mrs. Buffone worked for more than 25 years at a Pine Avenue office shared by three physicians. The practice later became Summit Pediatrics.

    She enjoyed bowling, watching baseball, and playing cards.

    Mrs. Buffone was a longtime member of St. Charles Catholic Church, after having grown up as a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

    Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Frank J.; four sons, Michael of Sterling, Va.; Douglas of North Tonawanda and Patrick and Philip, both of Niagara Falls; two daughters, Nancy Pitarresi and Karen, both of Niagara Falls; a brother, Paul Julian of Sanborn; and eight grandchildren.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Charles Catholic Church, 56th Street and Lindbergh Avenue, following prayers at 9 a.m. in Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Ave.

    Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston.

    CLARA (SDAO) BUFFONE

    Clara Buffone, 93, of 82nd Street died Saturday (Nov. 28, 1992) in St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness.

    The former Clara Sdao was born in Serra D'Aullo in Calabria, Italy, and came to Niagara Falls in 1919.

    Survivors include two sons, Frank and Joseph; three daughters, Isabel Hoffman, Margaret Ognibene, and Frances; a brother, Lawrence Sdao; 19 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

    Services will be conducted at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1401 Pine Ave.

    Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.

    A Mass of Christian Burial for Lawrence W. Julian, 91, of Willow Avenue, a DuPont retiree, will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 11th Street and South Avenue.

    Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. in Rhoney Funeral Home, 1124 Ontario Ave. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston.

    Julian died Friday (April 19, 1996) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

    He was a chemical operator for E.I. DuPont de Nemours for 30 years until retiring in 1969.

    Before that, he worked for the City of Niagara Falls from 1929 to 1939.

    He was a 25-year member of the DuPont Retirement Club and a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church.

    He was the husband of the former Jean V. McClosky, who died in August 1976.

    He is survived by a daughter, June Buffone; a son, Paul M.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
