    Notes:

    Alice Waddell Houtz Mann, age 92 of Lewiston, died Monday July 11, 2016 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston where she has been a resident since September of 2014.


    Alice was born June 16, 1924 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Ernest J. and Elizabeth (Howell) Waddell and was the middle child of seven siblings to grow up in the Village of Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston's "Red Brick School" as class Valedictorian, worked for Stauffer Chemical Company, and later completed LPN certification and worked as a nurse in local medical practices. Alice was predeceased by her husbands, Roy Houtz (Dec. 26, 1976) and Dick Mann (July 29, 2004).


    Alice and Roy were foster parents to eight children. She was a longtime active member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Lewiston, and was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star of Niagara No. 658 as well as a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem and Ransomville O.E.S. No. 374. Alice honored the Lord by serving as church organist and choir member for more than 50 years at St. Paul Episcopal, Messiah Lutheran, and St. John Episcopal churches. She will be remembered for her dedication to serving others, her love of family, church, and Eastern Star, wonderful family gatherings, and for her cinnamon rolls and coconut cake.


    She is survived by a son, Gary (Alice) Houtz of Westerville, OH; a daughter, Terry (Donald) Neil of Clinton, NY; her grandchildren, Laura (Jeff) Waltz, Bruce Houtz, Heather and Greg Neil; her great granddaughters, Julia and Annie Waltz; her brothers, Ernie, Herb (Mildred), and Bob (Carol) Waddell; a sister, Jessie Level and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Bruce K. Houtz; three brothers, Henry, James, and Harold Waddell; and a sister, Helen Bartha.




    Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Thursday from 4 - 7 pm. A Celebration of Alice's Life will be held Friday, July 15, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 400 Ridge St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Alison Martin officiating. Burial will be private at Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston. To honor her love of family and church, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Episcopal Church, PO Box 354, Lewiston, NY 14092 or to St. Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
